Well I started with simethicone but I've read several postings here where people seemed to prefer gripe water so I was wondering about the dose since I have read that people on forum use both but prefer gripe water, my pig is on an antibiotic for loose stools and has and bet set to give her simethicone also

Yes she has a lot of gas the vet can feel it and so can I the vet recommended the simethicone which I've been using but wanted to try gripe water as I've read so often here that it's better

Perhaps phone your vet and ask him, just to be on the safe side

There are many of us here that have used Gripe water successfully for pigs with mild gas and it was originally recommended to me by someone I know who used to run a clinic at a vets. The dose is a maximum of 3 ml every few hours but some dose lower than that. That dose is based on the Woodwards version we have in the UK though. By all means run it past your vet. I have heard warnings about Simethicone but not Gripe water.

Just to add: Gripe water doesn't work in all cases, but it can work for some guinea pigs with ongoing mild bloating/gassing problems. For instance, it was the thing that worked best for my Ffraid (who died aged 7 earlier this year) who was suffering from repeated bloating episodes in the last couple of years of her life in the wake of a pain-induced partial gut stasis. It is best to run it past your vet, as I have done with my Ffraid and see which medication works better.

I still found that ranitidine (zantac) was the best for any severe bloating episodes.

However, for the long term, it may be best to look into dietary issues, like a grain intolerance, as the cause for the repeated/chronic gassing problems. This is likely to be a slow trial-and-error process as you will have to go through all the foods (starting with pellets) to see whether they are causing the upsets. Your piggy is a bit too young to have old age related digestive issues.
