Hi,

I took Lincoln to have his claws clipped at the pet shop and when they brought him back out they showed me his grease gland (didn't know they had one). They told me i need to clean it often and as i haven't so far, it has become blocked :-\ . I feel awful. When i was younger i only had female guinea pigs and had no idea this needed to be done.

What is the best thing to do now ? I have bathed him and tried cleaning the gland but it doesn't seem any different. It seems rather "crusty" (sorry couldn't think of a nicer word to use). I'm scared of trying to get this off as i'm not sure what is skin and what isn't.
Is he in pain because i haven't cleaned it? Does he need to see a vet? I feel so awful. :(
Any advice would be great.

I have used swarfega and this works well. Soak in some warm watr first, then apply the swarfega to the area working it in well. Leave for a few minutes. You may need to tease the crusty stuff off carefully and you may need to reapply the swarfega. Rinse it off thouroughly aftewards :)

quick question, is this the part on the back of the piggie, just above the bottom?! 98)

i always wondered about that, even when i was a little girl! now i know 15 years on! thanks!

Yep, we use Swarfega too and it works pretty well... Leo's gets particularly greasy.
