Adelyn
Adult Guinea Pig
Hi all,
Every several weeks or so, Clover gets her fur soiled on her side and/or bottom. If she doesn't clean it, I clean and brush it for her.
Yesterday, it happened again. While I was investigating, I noticed that what seems to be her grease gland (?) is looking grimy. The fur around it was damp and soiled, so I cleaned that up right away. I'm going to try to clean the grease gland later with some coconut oil and a quick bum bath, but as I've never had this problem before, I wanted to ask if this needs vet attention.
If it helps, she didn't complain when I touched the gland and did the fur cleaning, but piggies are good at hiding pain . . .
There is also a clump of these strange, white, hard pebbles to the side of the gland, stuck in the fur. They wouldn't come off when I gently pulled, so I clipped the fur to get some of them off. The others I couldn't get at the moment. They are very hard, and won't break even when I squeeze them. They are different shapes. Any ideas?
Poor Clover, I'm worried about her, as she is getting older. I hope this problem can be quickly fixed

Here I'm pulling her fur back to show the area in question, though you can't see my hand.
If you look very closely, you can see some of the white pebbly things in the fur beneath the grease gland.
Here are some of the white pebbly things I clipped off, zoomed in:
Any help is very much appreciated, poor Clover
