Hi
I am new to all this and don't have any piggies yet. I am trying to find out lots before bringing any home.
We have 2 dogs that do spend on the grass at times. If I bring piggies in I would want to move a run around the grass, is it okay if the dogs have been on it? ( we also have lots of wildbirds at the feeder and a fox that visits, but we would be careful and they would have a hutch in the porch.
Thanks in advance x

I think your piggies will be fine [when you get them] if you buy a stable run. Make sure it is wood and cage, and has some shade. I think it should be fine for guinea pigs to be on the grass after the dogs, as long as theres no doo doo! But talk to an expert before you try it!

Sorry I disagree, dog wee isn't good, you would need a good down pour of rain and some time to ensure no harm would be done. Plus the fox would smell the guineas and come after them.

Whilst some dogs are good with piggies it's not a guarantee, my parents dog goes nuts for my 3. She can smell them from another rooms and it drives her to distraction so she doesn't visit anymore, plus my piggies can sense her and go into hidey mode.

Best option would be to create a totally separate area for them and definitely not encourage the fox, believe me, they can be totally vicious.

Probably not the news you were looking for, depends how flexible you can be with housing. Good to ask though.

i also agree that it is probably not very healthy for your pigs to use the same grass as the dogs have been on. I am lucky that our small back garden is our dogs toilet and living in a cottage where everything is traditionally the wrong way round, my front garden is our main garden (it is at the end of a long drive and not overlooked at all and secured by a 8ft high wrought iron gate) and the pigs live out there and use the grass for the run. Can you separate your garden so that half is for dogs and half for pigs?
