I know they're just little-uns but they have oodles of space in there! Lucky piggies!

What is the ramp made of? Just corex? Does it have anything stuck down to stop them slipping on it?

o thats good i wasnt sure if it was big enough but I'm just stupid i think hahaha.

the ramp is made of like solid tubing its not correx but iv noticed they av been slipping a bit, its got sticky velcrow things on it though i dunno if that helps them stop slipping, *** could i do to stop them slipping? david seems to be able to manage it but looks a little slippy but craigs got no chance hes like a hippo in roller boots. x

lol a hippo in roller boots?!?!

The velcro is probably there because the previous owner used to attach fleece or something similar to the ramp using velcro, especially if there are just random bits of it stuck there. I'm guessing that you'll just need to get some more and line it up with the bits that are there!

Looks very cool how about fleece for the ramp I know that someone on here does ramp covers for cavy corner and thay look amazing and very reasonable :)) sorry carnt remember the members name I am sure that someone will tell you xx

a hippo in roller boots = clumsy hahahhaha
ye your **** right, my fella going to get some rubber matt from work and we will put that on. poor fellas i keep putting parsley on the ramp so they go up slipping all over the place I'm a horrible pig person lol xx

Looks great. :) You can just put a towel on it tonight. That's all I have on mine until I make some covers. You can use clothes pegs if need be.

:(|)hahaha a hippo in roller boots :(|)
looks great! Well done. Bet they are looooving the extra space....i was thinking of putting a hay loft in mine...but i like to sit in there with them lol..... :(|)

hahah iv been sat in there with them to. i keep going in and picking poo up. i think i like it more than they do.

i hope they go up the ramp when its sorted, iv put the hay loft on the floor now because they wont go up to it, its made a right mess haha xx

Am so jealous, that is a fantastic cage and am glad they seem to be enjoying it. We loved the hippo in roller boots comment.

It looks great. I would get a towel on there asap so they don't hurt their legs on the ramp when they slip.

I have vetbed on mine but cheap mats cut up lengthways would work (asda and wilkinsons sell them for 75p each you may need 2 at most)

I bet they are loving that space!

thanks lisa they wont go up the ramp anyway and i put a fleece on it last night david ran up it but he was hanging over the ledge at the top i thought he was guna jump or fall. I'm thinking of taking my second level down and extended it at the bottom what do you think?

hey. Mine is the same layout as yours 2X4 bottom with 1X2 loft but the loft is entirely for hay as the girls love to burrow in it heaps.

What I used for the ramp (which worked brilliantly, Ruby figured it out straight away) is bending half the grid upwards. I started by bending both sides but then realised one side rests against the walls of the cage (I can't remember if you have this or not but put an extra grid on the side of the ramp opening, so it's a 1X2 loft but there is two grids on one side. Then I bent up the sides and that's like the barrier and the cage walls is the other side barrier.

You only need two girds. I say overlap them slightly and then cable tie them together. then get an old towel (or somethign fancier if you have it) and peg it to the top to stop it slipping. the girls are going up and down easily, and Chloe didn't need any encouragement she discovered it herself. I showed it to Ruby first as Chloe was annoying her and she needed an escape!

Hopefully I can post pics of it tomorrow to show you what I mean.

I'll sum it up for you

2 Grids

Bend one side up a bit don't worry if it breaks a little bit on one side you can tape it up and it actually bends easier after that!

overlap the grids and cable tie them together. cable tie to top of loft as well. don't attach to bottom but can do some attachments on the side if need be. its handy to be able to lift it for cleaning.

place towel over grids and peg it on at the top so it stays in place.

To bend grids put your knee on one part and then bend slowly upwards with the loose part. there are other ways too but this worked best for me.

I have four grids for the main ramp part then one grid is on the bend and then four up.

this works a dream.

I say consider this before taking it down. The loft is a nice feature and works great with the piggies. it looks nice and the piggies love it. if the sides are higher guarenteed the piggies will find it safe! they will go on it happily if there are high enough sides. i reckon a towel has better grip than fleece too.

Just saw you have that extra grid. but your ramp starts a bit off from it. extend the space a bit longer and then place the ramp so it's against that part of the wall then do the bent up sides like I recomended.

my fella going to get some rubber matt from work and we will put that on.

Hope you managed to find a good solution. If you use a rubber mat to line the ramp, I'd be really careful and keep a close eye on it in case they start nibbling - not sure what it'd look like exactly but it could perhaps potentially be a choking hazard. Just worth bearing in mind :)

Thanks for all this info, please could you post me a pic as i dont really understand what it would look like. Do you think mine isnt very safe? I'm frightened to death of them falling off the top of it. x

ov put a towel on it for now xx

I've taken a few quick pics of mine to give you an idea (so excuse the mess)

I don't think yours is dangerous but if you think there's a chance that your boys are going to try and jump it, you can make the barrier at the top higher (even some thick cardboard would do as a temp measure- fix with cable ties).
Hope this is helpful. :)

iv cut a long strip of towel for now and secured it with pegs going up so it doesnt slip. David just been up it and it was fine. although he was chewing the pegs lol.

Craig still not been up the ramp. iv tried putting veg on it but no luck xx

aah got you thanks flips. thats useful. yes i think ill get some cardbard for now until i can think about what to do with it. I'm pretty sure david would jump hes a bit of a daredevil, he doesnt seem scared of the height of it or anything x

Yeah what I meant was like Flips. I'll try and get some photos of it today as well. I don't have the cardboard though. I just bent up one side of the grids in a curve.

Guinea pigs don't always feel completely safe even if it is so sometimes you have to over do it. I also saw a picture in the gallery where someone had a cover over the top of the ramp which you could do with bent grids or coroplast. That also adds extra safety and makes it kinda tunnel-y with the guinea pigs love the idea of.

And don't worry about it, getting the ramp right, there's a bit of a trick to it! And not all guinea pigs find it easy to accustom to, but once they do they're fine with it.
