My last ditch attempt at bonding my guinea pigs Boris and Badger will be either today or tomorrow as the Gorgeous Guineas shampoo arrived today.

So bonding baths together as well as a deep cage clean and move around (with the OH helping, of course!) so my fingers are firmly crossed that this works!

Does anyone have any other tips to increase the chance of this working? Everyother time I've tried they've been fine until they go back into the cage, then they start ripping eachothers hair out!

Also, at which point should I seperate? They've gone for eachother when I've introduced before but never drawn blood since the initial fight, just been teeth chattering and puffed up, with some scrapping which led to some tufts of hair. I'm really unsure when to actually seperate if it all goes pear shaped again.

Thank you again and wish me luck! Will update as soon as I can :)

Hi Lydia

Sorry I don't have any tips, but just wanted to say I'm going throught the same thing at the moment - you're not alone. I did the bonding bath 2 weeks ago - bathed and dried them together. I left them sat nicely together for about an hour and then put them back in the spotless c&c cage and they were fine for about 5 hours then they started fighting all over again. If you read my thread Fighting Boars - When to seperate I got some really nice tips and comments.

I'm glad to say I think they have both calmed down a little now and havent been fighting too bad, just some mild snapping at each other.

I will keep everything crossed for you.

If only they'd realise they'd have a lovely life if only they got on together!

Lisa

Thank you, they're in the cage together now and we've had some really mixed aggressive signs so I'm keeping a close eye on them both, as they had a bit of a scrap but no blood, here's hoping it's ok!

Well it certainly did not end well, long story short Boris now has a small cut on his stomach so the divider is back up for good :(

Sorry it didn't work out :(

Oh what a shame! But they can have happy lives living next door to each other interacting through the barrier, so don't despair.

Oh dear, sorry to hear this :(
Sorry it didn't work out :(

Thank you, I feel very guilty for causing the cut on Boris's belly though :( Feel a bit daft for thinking it could have worked out!

Thank you, is the interaction enough for them though? As currently I don't really have the space or money to get them wives so is them seeing/hearing eachother enough for now? That's my main concern :(

I used gorgeous guinea shampoo... not only did it smell lovely and foamed up really well so didn't need to use a lot. I used it for a bonding bath and since that bath the bickering has finally stopped! The odd telling off here and there but its so much quieter! Joooy!

Don't feel guilty, you had to try & until there is blood drawn one can't be sure they won't get along. Yes, for boars seeing, hearing & smelling each other through an appropriate barrier is enough interaction as they know they are not alone and many boars live happily this way. In the wild, boys would not be living together but would be close enough to the main colony of top boar & harem in hopes of catching their own females. I was prepared to have my 2 living side by side in case it didn't work out as we have no boar dating here & I had to take potluck. You could try to have them together at floor time though as some piggy boys who can't tolerate each other together in a cage will happily get along in neutral territory.

I wish it had been that easy with me! :P

That's a comfort, they do seem to enjoy sleeping next to eachother through the divider, just not sharing space :) That's put my mind at rest, thank you :)

I'm really sorry it didn't work out for them, but at least now you know there's not going to be anymore fighting and injuries x x

Thank you, it is sort of a relief to be able to truly put it out of my mind that they might bond again, I can start thinking about wives! However now the cost of neutering them both, a new large cage and travelling to the adoption centre and adoption fee's is a little overwhelming! Starting to panic! :vom:
