As many people are aware Goofy recently lost his companion Tigger... he has been ok and after vets go go sign he went to be neutered. All seemed fine and his incision seems to heal nice and there is no more sollen area but quite often during the day and at nights Goofy cries a lot. It seems like shrieking sounds which would mean he is in pain but when I take him out of the cage to cuddle him gently or give him some more treats or just talk to him in the cage he calms down. I was wondering if he is very lonely and that's why he cries. I love comporting him but it's hard to do it every night at 4am.
I got him some new toys and nice cuddly fliece so he could sleep comfortable but I am worried this could be something more serious. He eats healthy loving his lettice apples and other veg. His poo is also as normal. I just would love to know why does he cry? I am afraid I might be missing something and I do not want Goofy to suffer.

Is he wheeking when peeing/pooping or is it a continuous wheek?

If you think it's because he is lonely, would it be possible for you to rehome a girl or two and keep them next to Goofy until he is ready for introduction? That way, they can get to know each other though the bars and intros should go smoother with less frenzied humping/chasing.

No Wiebke, he does not wheek when pooping or peeing as he had been on my laps with the towel and had found some poos there when putting him back to his cage...

Unfortunately RSPCA does not want to start the rehoming process until Goofy has been at least 4 weeks after his op which means another 2 to go :( Another problem is that I have only an indoor cage and its is not as big as I wish so I can not put another piggy near him. RSPCA said that it actually might upset him if he can not get to new companion... really not sure where I stand on...I am planing to get 2 sows and buy an outdoor cage that is almost 10sq feet which would be sufficient for 3 piggies. But firstly wanted Goofy to get better...

He also does not wheek continuously, will wheek for a minute then stop and after some time will start it again

When I've been working at the rescue I've heard some lonely new arrivals do a loud shriek at intervals. The rescue lady told me she thinks it's a kind of "Hello, lonely piggy here, anyone out there?". It' makes sense if he calms down when you come and talk to him.

Can you see if there is another rescue that will rehome to you? If you get that large cage they can comfortably live side by side and get used to eachother.

I know some people have teddies in with their lone piggies. Can you maybe try that?

It sounds as if he is lonely, especially if he stops as soon as you pick him up. Do you have a different rescue near you other than the RSPCA? They might let you take your ladies home early as long as they were kept seperate.

Some piggies take it hard being lonely. My first own piggy when I was a teenager was a big bawler as well, and I ended up singing him lullabies and all! rolleyes

If Goofy is screaming when he is on your lap, he just wants to tell you how unhappy he is - but it is good that he is communicating and not just withdrawing into himself!

What a pity about the RSPCA - I know that they have to be stricter with their rules from bad experiences when people wouldn't wait the whole length of time. Have you got another rescue within your reach that has girls?

When my Marty Pig was recovering from his neutering I would let him have supervised play time with the girls he was going to be living with. Intially he was in a run in the living room with the girls free range. He was much more contented after play time, especially once a routine was established - fresh hay, fresh veg, playtime, pellets.

when they did eventually all move into their new cage there were very few problems as they were all used to each other and there was no frenetic humping.

Perhaps as others have suggested another local rescue would be more willing to rehome to you.

I have bought him a nice kitty teddy that he likes to lie down with and then he seems to be more content.

Also tried to look for other rescue centre (thanks Wiebke) but it seems they have only 1 female who is 5 - 6 yrs so I am not sure if I want piggy at this age...and they want to place her with another female.
