My oldest pig is almost 8. I got her in april 2017 and she was just a baby baby..now she’s almost 8 and i don’t know if i am imagining it or if she’s losing weight and is being really lethargic. is that just a sign she’s getting ready to go? Or does it last a bit before they pass. I know her time is coming but is it soon , or do i still have a little bit of time with her. Or is it impossible to know . here is my girl from today

She also has been eating i ahve her and her cagemate fresh lettuce n she ate it up along with tomatos today

I’m sorry for the stress, but seriously happy you’ve had so many years!
If she’s eating her hay, she’s likely alright. We should try to weigh our guinea pigs weekly, daily in this situation. I think most members will suggest an exotic vet visit.

Exactly as above. Switch to daily weight checks so you can monitor hay intake more closely and see a vet for any concerns. She is a really great age but you can’t assume any change in behaviour, appetite etc is a sign of age but instead need to check out any potentially medical angle first in case treatment is needed

Old pig anxiety

I started a similar thread nearly two years ago.

It’s tough, you could have a good bit of time together but equally the end could be found the corner. Enjoy the time you have knowing that the only one with anxiety is you, they are blissfully unaware of your concern xx

Aw she is a beautiful old gal ❤️

I agree with the others. If she is eating her hay and generally happy then I wouldn’t worry too much. Enjoy the time you have left, I hope it’s many, many more happy times x

The good news is that she's eating and happy even at a ripe old age. Unfortunately, at least in my experience, there's not always a good way to judge how much time elderly piggies have left. Most of the old pigs I've had have been fine right up until the time that they weren't fine... most of my pigs have passed with only a few hours of warning. Just enjoy the days and make them all special, that's the most important thing!
