Hey, so the guinea pigs are currently on towels and duvet covers. they are good and comfortable for their feet but stink so quickly as they are not waterproof and i can't afford to buy any guinea pig waterproof fleece things. so i was thinking about putting them on a nice soft, bedding that would be a good alternative every other week or so?

Fitch is great as it is really absorbent and there is no smell either. I have my hamsters on it.

Another good bedding is Vetbed with towels underneath. It is an initial expense but worth it and I would keep my pigs on it if my set up wasn't the size of the whole room. I do have Vetbed areas though.

Fitch is good stuff. I'm using it more and more nowadays. I still put fleece in some areas.

I also use Aubiose as I can get it reasonably priced from an equine supplier. I find Aubiose a bit prickly though so only use it in their " litter trays" with plenty of hay on top.
There is a nice sticky about bedding on this forum somewhere.
Also , some forum members are sharing a fitch order as it's cheaper to buy in bulk.

Do you have a picture of fitch, I'm interested In what it looks like & also what is the average price. I'm using megazorb but hate the smell. It is only £10 for 85 litres tho. Thanks x

Fitch is amazing, i buy it in bulk to it works out pretty cheap like £12 a bale (each bale weighs 20kg), i have 3 cages to clean out each week and each bale lasts me 3 weeks.. so if you have one cage one bale would last 9 clean outs...

It's soft, odor free, absorbent and non dusty.

I use all time for the piggies now and they piggies will actually choose to sleep on the Fitch rather than the hay area in their cage!

Here's a piccie of it when they've just been cleaned out... :)

I can recommend Fitch too but if you really are interested in fleece it needn't be expensive. You can buy a fleece throw from Primark or similar for around £4. Just lay that on top of your towels you are already using. To help it wick the moisture away, makes sure you never use fabric conditioner when you wash it and wash it three times before use.

Thankyou every one for such helpful replys! I might buy some Fitch and put it on top of the towels and see how that goes? Or do the towels then fleece thingy? I shall have to check them links out :) id love to have fleece for them but the hay clogs the washing machine but ive found a wy of stopping that now :D yay. I may also try fleece and Fitch together. Tha Lyon so much everyone! I must say, everyone on this forum is so kind :) aha cheers

Also, what does fabric conditioner do? I dont think my mum uses fabric conditioner when she washes the guinea pig stuff anyway but I'm curious :) xx

I am using Fitch in trays and fleece everywhere else if that helps x

Oo okay :) I've got a good idea of wht I'm going to do :D also i know this isn't to do with bedding, but do you think its too late to litter train a 1yr and 4 month old guinea pig? I got the guinea pigs to call my own when they were around 8 months and never really thought about litter training but i think it would be so helpful

Some people say they have some success with litter training but many more say they haven't. My personal view is that the best you can hope for is to get more poops and wees in certain areas and I'd suggest pegging towels over a corner with a tray in it as they like to spend time in hideys so that might help but, really, expect the poops to still be all over.

I'm doing the same in our c&c cage at the moment. I was worried the Fitch would get kicked out of the tray and all over the fleece but it hasn't been too bad actually. They do poo there (but also everywhere else!).

Ah okay :) just a though as the guineas are now in my room for winter so trying to keep the piggies smell down but pigs 'll be pigs. Pooing when and where ever ;) xx

Fabric conditioner "seals" the fibres in the fleece so that moisture (wee) can't get through.

Haha yeah, mess on the floor isn't such a problem as i Hoover my room nearly everyday as i got my gerbils in my room as well and oh boy how they love kicking bedding everywhere :')

Oo i didnt know that :) thankyou piggysmitten. Ah ill give it a whirl and if they dont take to it then ill stick to sweeping the poos daily :) thanks XD x
