Hi folks :)

Well the guineas are doing fine after 6 months of ownership and are getting less terrified if we come in, Truffle will come up the the cage and sniff\nibble fingers now and they all popcorn like mad when I sit next to them for a wee bit :)

Anyway, our current setup works quite well but I am looking at changing to an all fleece arrangement and I was wondering if I had done my homework correctly.

Basically in the run we use fleece and bath mats with pee pads below.

The hutch is a 2 story affair but the pigs just don't go near the ramp so I am inclined to block it off and remove the partition so they have more space, and I currently use carefresh and newspaper beneath.

The problem is its expensive and the 2 long hair girls get mats from it which is a shame and a faff to cut off, especially as one HATES being brushed, jumps about like mad if you go near the rear end hehe.

My plan is to get more fleece from home bargains, and put the fleece down folded twice with pads below it. The aim being to wash each set every 3-4 days. Using Non Bio powder and no softner.

My GF is a bit worried our washing will go up massively but we already do the run bedding so its not massively different, although I didn't know about horse bags...guess who is cleaning out the machine!

Anyway, does that sound like the right idea: Fleece, Towel and or pee pads and non bio washing? The girls love fleece as they plonk themselves down in the run and snooze (with eyes open!) and it would stop matting as much\ be lots cheaper in long run.

Cheers folks.

It sounds about right! It is worth paying a bit more and investing in some good quality anti-pil microfleece, which wicks most efficiently and will last you for years. Please wash fleece at a higher temperature before use and regularly during use in order to prevent the build-up of bacteria (60 C); at need you can even wash it at 90 C. It will pull together somewhat, especially lengthwise, so you need to factor it into your measurements. You will need to change about twice weekly. Ideally you get two sets of everything.

Yeah that's what we are doing wth the run bedding, so its basically just a case of double what we have for the hutch :) Thanks.
