Hello everyone,

I have had Noodles my male guinea pig since the end of january, he is now castrated and around 6 months old. Then I got Melon at the end of March and she is around 4 months old. Both have never been housed outside as yet - that i know of as i rescued them.

They have a lovely new wooden insulated hutch suitable for all seasons, but I'm a little worried to put them out as yet as its still chilly at night! Do i bite the bullet and put them outside now so they become used to it, or wait till it gets warmer?

Thank you

I got my boys back in their hutch in the shed during the last spell of great weather and the temp has really dropped now - luckily I had all the stuff from when they were out in it last year so was easily able to keep them toasty. Having them in the shed really helps too.

Their Dandelion Hutch is wrapped with Therma wrap from Homebase - top, back, sides and under the floor too - looks like a spaceship now! - and also has an old thick sleeping back over it at night, it also has lots of hay in the bedroom, a snugglesafe pad and a massive fiddlestick bridge bent over everything, which is covered in layers of fleece liners so it forms an igloo for them. I also have a min/max digital thermometer which is really useful too.

So they are doing fine - but they are big adult males who are very healthy and hardy.
If you can wait till this next batch of bad weather is over that would be best. Then its best to make sure you have all the necessary toasty items for when the temp falls once they are out in the hutch. :)
