Hi I'm going on holiday for a month and really don't know what to do with my two piggies I can either put them into boarding or put them in a hutch outside and get my neighbor to look after them, But I really don't know what to do because my guinea pigs have neither been outside in a hutch but they know my neighbor very well but with the boarding I'm really worried that my guinea pigs could really stress out and I not eat but also with the hutch I'm really worried a fox could get them. Can anyone help me.

I would find a professional boarder. Having them outside, especially when they’re not used to it, with just a neighbour popping in, for such a long time, doesn’t seem like a senario I’d be happy with for my pigs.

Thank you that really helps.

My piggies are used to being outside and I still don't like leaving them for a week or two when I go on holiday with my neighbour/a friend popping in. My piggies are always pleased to see me when I get home! I would find a professional boarder too. Ask at your vets they should be able to recommend one.

Dont forget about how hot its going to get too

if it were just a week then letting your neighbour look after them wouldn't be too bad but for a whole month I would definitely look into boarding

I have to admit I would not want to,leave them outside at all. The weather is too unpredictable and if something goes wrong (we all know Guineas use holidays to be sick) would your neighbour have the time and knowledge to care for them? Is it fair to expect them to?

Honestly? Most Guineas thrive on being in a different environment, they will probably thoroughly enjoy themselves and you will have a much more relaxing holiday as a result.

I agree that if you haven’t got a close friend or family member to take care of them, I would find a professional boarder.

I certainly wouldn’t like to put my piggies outside especially when they’re not used to it and it’s suppose to be very hot here again next week

Could you give your neighbour a spare key & leave the guinea pigs in their usual cage in the house? Or pay a registered pet sitter to come round & feed them each day? Through recommendations I use a lady who’s primarily a dog sitter to feed my boys when I’m away. She’s insured & has been doing it for years which helped put my mind at ease. I also bought a cheap webcam so I can check on them whilst I’m away for peace of mind. I felt this was better for the boys than going to a pet boarder as the one near me also looked after other species including a parrot who was very vocal & the family also had dogs, which I felt would stress the boys out as they’re not used to it. So if you do go to a boarder I’d ask what other pets are likely to be staying there too

Where abouts are you? We could try and help recommend some local boarding places if we know your general location.
