I'm thinking adding glucosamine to Larry's diet may help with his arthritis. He is having some pain when pooing which the vet has attributed to the arthritis in his hips.
He's already on the top dose of meloxicam.
Ive tried the oxbow joint support biscuits but he doesn't like them 😂
I have Cystease in from his friend Eric who used to have it daily. I've noticed this has more glucosamine in than the oxbow biscuits!
Will giving him Cystease for a bit help at all?
Is there anything else I can add to his diet etc to help? I have to be careful what I give him as he is diabetic.

Hi

Glucosamine works for both the urinary tract and arthritis so can try and see whether he improves. The carrier powder inside the capsule should be a low enough quantity; especially compared to the oxbow supplement.
Between the metacam and the glucosamine, the arthritis should be covered. Don't be tempted to throw the bathroom suite after the kitchen sink when the latter is perfectly adequate! ;)

I have two older piggies with arthritis and have been giving them 4joints (0.4ml daily) as well as the Metacam and Cystease. After 3 weeks of 4joints I noticed an improvement in mobility in both piggies.

This may of course be coincidental but it's worth trying if you don't see any improvement with the current treatment.

@Wiebke thank you! I'll give it a try! I'm going to book him in for a check up soon just to be on the safe side 😊

@YvonneBlue ooh not heard of that one, I'll keep it in mind should there be no improvement with the Cystease. Thanks! 😊

@Yvonne Blue what 4Joints do you use and where do you get it please? I've just looked it up to try for Red and got totally confused over the choice of biscuit, tablet, liquid and capsule!

Thank you, looks good. The vet wanted me to try Oxbow Joint Support biscuits which I have on order but I've a feeling from past experience he won't eat them.

Only one of piggies liked the Oxbow biscuits. Both my oldies take the 4joints without a problem. It takes a few weeks to show any improvement, so stick with it. Hope it helps your piggy to feel better.

I was having a discussion with my vet today, and the Johnsons 4 joints was suggested. For arthritis, it is recommended that Chrondotin be given with Glucosamine, and this product contains both. I hope that helps this discussion
