I called into my local petshop yesterday to pick up some food for my boys and I noticed that they had glass water bottles, I was just wondering if anyone uses glass water bottles and if so are they better than the plastic ones?
I have heard they are better for health reasons but dont know if this is true or not, or what the health benefits are.

My girls have glass bottles. I have heard that they keep the water cooler in the summer meaning that less Algae forms. I only brought my glass bottles as they looked nice and they have cute plastic ducks inside :)

My guineas were given a glass bottle together with a plastic one and now three out of the four only drink from the glass one. Perhaps it must taste better.rolleyes

We have one of these bottles i bought it because the spout is really long so when used on the side of indoor cages it sticks out better as i found on some of the Classic plastic ones the spout did not stick out much making hard to drink from. I love it as it easily fits in my steriliser as well unlike some of the sippy ones that are a nightmare to clean in the way i like to clean my bottles.

I love the duck you get inside it as wellx)

Hi there. We started with a plastic one, but got a glass one mainly because the spout was longer for our indoor cage.
Both our guinea pigs stopped drinking from the plastic one as soon as the glass one went up!
They are drinking much more now too!

Oh, i want a glass one with a duck:) I did read somewhere that they leak less has anyone found this to be true?

Glass definately:))

The reason for me is they drink more in my experience great for piggies with uti's, also plastic leaches chemicals and I think the piggies can taste this.

Also glass is more hygienic to clean:))

I have two with the duck, and both don't leak a drop. The reason they would leak is if you lost the clear rubber washer inside as it can come out when washing and not notice or yo do not tighten it properly:))

i have 3 diff ones i have normal plastic ones, 4 glass ones, and the squared plastic ones with like a pin they press then the water comes out..

1st choice glass..though water does come out more when they drink and can get there bedding wet, but its far better for health reasons, helps flush the bladder out =helps stop bladder stones UTIs ...looks nice plus lovely little duck..

2nd choice...the squared plastic ones dont drip at all same as the glass sometimes more water comes out when they drink so can get there bedding wet..

3rd choice ....plastic, only use these if i have too, has i find they drip all the time plus they dont seem to get enough water with these so its not good for health reasons as it doesnt flush the bladder out enough..

4th choice, bowl this i never use as i find they poop in it and things get kicked in it...

1st choice and 2nd choice are very close if not the same x

When we go away for the night and leave our girls to be fed by our neighbour, I put the plastic bottles back in to make it easier for him. The girls always stick their noses up rolleyes

I read this thread the other day and brought one today to try with my Trio, who keep flooding there hutch floor with the classic one'srolleyes . I know my classic ones do not leak as I switched bottles about to see if it was the bottle. I had tried the sippy type but both of those cracked after a short time.
So if the trio get on with this glass bottle I shall purchase a couple more must say I love how I could twist the nozzle to fit. Also it could fit in or outside of the hutch:) the only thing I was worried about was putting it inside was the metal hanger hooks could injure eyes.

I have plastic bottles, because if I got glass, I'd surely drop them :)

My rabbits have the plastic one with the duck, they completely ignore it. I bought it as it had a really long spout, but they dislike it.

never heard of this glass one with a duck in? Where's it from people? I must invest! X x

So far so good with my trio no more floods and daily change of bedding:))

Shall be buying another in pets at home (hate the shop) but money well spent if it means no floods:) I only go in there for one thing thats for Yumega oil for the dogs cannot find it anywhere else apart from online.
