After reading so much on here about fleece bedding I decided to give it a go! I've been using a paper bedding until now which is great as it's completely dust free and lightweight but with 7 piggies I was going through so much of it and it wasn't staying clean for long, despite them having a big c&c cage. So I thought fleece would be worth a go - so far so good!

I just got some big cheap fleece blankets from Ikea (I didnt want to spend too much in case it wasnt for me), and have puppy pads and a mattress topper underneath. The fleeces seem to be doing a good job of staying dry and the pigs love it! After a cautious look around there was popcorning and zooming all over the place! Even the older girls that I hadn't seen popcorn before were having a go! :))

With 7 of them I do seem to be poop-picking every 5 minutes but it doesn't take long and it soon looks tidy(ish!) again. I've also got some zip-up pillow cases for washing the fleeces in to protect the washing machine from the bits of hay that seem to get everywhere ;)

So far I'm really pleased with how it's going, but will still experiment a bit with trying different combinations of layers to see what works best. xx>>>

That is great. I use fleece and I think it is the best bedding. My girls love it. :)

hehe where in the same boat ive just started using fleece bedding with my skinnys tonight :)! fingers crossed for us both!

The only real problem I'm finding is that their hay is going everywhere! It's difficult to sweep up and I'm worried that trying to do so will wear the fleece more quickly. Tonight I've tried making a seperate newspaper area to see if it keeps the hay a bit more tidy (although I'm wondering whether they'll just eat it!) Just trial and error for a bit I suppose!

I just leave the hay in a big pile in the middle of their cage. They seem to prefer it that way.

Do you have any problems getting the bits off before you wash your fleeces.? I'm changing their fleeces for the first time tomorrow and a bit worried about clogging up the washing machine!

Hi

I have a 2x4 C&C cage with a hayloft. The bottom has a cage liner (waterproof matress topper sewn to fleece) and thr hayloft is a correx tray with a cat litter tray inside.

The litter tray is filled with megazorb and changed daily. My two boys could wee for britain and its rather whiffy! they tend to wee and poop where they eat so they tray under they hayrack with their food bowl in not only keeps down the smell but stops the liner getting covered in hay etc

I am trying fleece for the 1st time tonight too - as there are so many pretty designs and colours and its a heck of a lot cheaper than vet bed and fits in the washing machine better - also putting a separate section at the end with newspaper underneath to pop the hay on.

Thanks for all of the replies :)

I've got a couple of pillow protectors with zips at one end for washing, which are perfect! I was just wondering if there was a way of making tidying up and cleaning the fleece a bit easier. I thought about trying a hayloft but I wasn't sure if the older girls would get up there (as they don't even bother attempting the smallest of ramps on their wooden houses!) so I've made a seperate area with newspaper and plastic trays with paper bedding in for their hay. This was nice and easy as I have an L shaped cage and it's working well, I just clean or change this area a couple of times a day and the fleece is staying really clean as well! I'm really pleased with it all now, hope everyone else is getting on with their fleece trials ok!

i dont use fleece in the entire cage just in half and the hay in a hay rack with a litter tray underneath. less hay on the fleece :)

i shake the fleece and brush it down and then put into a pillowcase and tie the top with an old hairband.
