Hello. I have a trio, Pickle, my blind boy, with two young sisters, Flumpet and Maisy in a 3 x 5 c and c. Opposite, in the same room, my old lady Willow-Bee and her two year old roomie Coco Bean also in a 5 x 3 c and c.
None of the bonds are particularly strong, but Coco and Willow are not normally too far apart from each other, they just don't snuggle.
Pickle and Maisy seem closer and Flump is arguably the odd pig out, but normally proceedings are happy and settled.
However both pairs of girls occasionally get very ratty with each other. Proper loud teeth chattering and high pitched warning squeaks. If I was attempting a bond I'd question if it was worth continuing! Pickle has been trying to pacify Maisy and her sister Flump this evening, to marginal effect, bless him!
Sometimes this sets the other two off across the room (entirely separate enclosures) It drives me crazy with worry. Usually they settle down and the next day look at me like "What's wrong mummy?!" 🤨 I am pretty convinced it's hormones but it seems extreme behaviour as it includes the teeth chattering.
Has any one else experienced such tetchy divas? Could they rip each other's heads off? 😬
I have been a proud Guinea Mummy for 12 years and, seriously, give me a pair of boars any day! Who'd have girls? 😁
I love them all to bits, I just wish they'd stop scaring me! Is interjection required? I'd hate to split. Advice gratefully received.

Hi!

How old are your sisters? Ovarian cysts can revive underlying issues/rivalries, especially in the more confrontational sister pairs in my own experience.

Here is more information on how you can evaluate whether a bond is still functional or not if you think this would be helpful for your situation: Bonds In Trouble

Thank you both. The sisters are just over a year. I'm fairly sure it's hormonal/season related behaviour but wanted advice as I obvs don't want any of my pigglies to be unhappy or attacked!
Thank you 😀

It is likely seasonal; it is on the very early side for the onset of ovarian cysts.

But from my own experiences with feuding sister pairs there is definitely some underlying grudge around that is bound to resurface and that may end with a fall out. Sows usually don't fight the same way as boars; they express their dislikes differently. A husboar can try to intervene but he can do only so much. :(

Both my current sister pairs are living with different partners.

Thank you Wiebke. Thankfully there was idyllic calm this morning! I had to go to work, which is always Really Rude when I'd much rather stay at home to monitor Girl Behaviour. 😁I've yet to find someone to pay me to stay at home and observe my colony.🙃 I live in hope, though!😄 I will check on them very carefully and step in to separate if necessary.
Thank you 😍
