I posted on here a few weeks ago. My guinea pig had dental surgery just over a month ago. She is eating normal now but she still will not use her water bottle since the dental problem. I'm having to syringe feed her water. She won't use a bowl either as she isn't used to it. I have tried covering the metal of the bottle with plastic so it's like a syringe which she did attempt a couple of times at first but then left it again. Anyone got any suggestions please

- Check the water bottle is working properly at dispensing water
- Guinea pigs could also eat a lot of watery veggies and not feel the need to drink as much
- Additives in the water could also be a reason some guinea pigs won’t drink the water since they are not good at accepting change really quickly
- Water bottles and bowls should never be placed on upper levels since they are not as easy to access there, instead place them by food bowls and litter boxes with hay
- Make sure the water bottles is always clean to keep a good taste to the water
- We guinea pigs are stressed, like when you bring them home from the pet store and put them in the new cage it also makes them afraid to not drink
- All guinea pigs who came from a breeder know how to use a water bottles, they are born with the most developed brain
- Guinea pigs should not be forced feed water unless your vet has told you to!
- If the guinea pig is eating normal then it will decide for itself when it needs water
- Diet change will also effect if guinea pigs eat more
- If a guinea pig is actually dehydrated you will see tear drop shaped poop
- If it is mushy like diarrhea a diet might be the problem
- Call her veterinarian if you need advice specifically for her dental needs

If she used a bottle before I think she would use it again if she was thirsty unless there is still a problem with her mouth and the bottle is hurting her. I'd stop syringing water and see if she goes back to the bottle. It could also be she is getting enough fluid through her food as mentioned above. I expect you have seen the thread linked below but have included it in case you haven't. All About Drinking And Bottles

If she is now able to eat well, is maintaining her weight at each check and the dental issues are dealt with, then I would also stop syringing water and allow your piggy to decide if she wants to drink.

I will try i but I have tried to leave it but have left it for a couple of days once and she didn't touch her bottle then when offered the syringe she went mad and wanted loads
