I’ve just cleaned the piggies out and Edward has just produced some giant poos. He’s done a few of them, here’s a comparison to his normal poo. Should I be concerned? His normal poo is on the left. He normally has quite small poos 6FC37961-32B7-4FD4-8D6E-2278DBAC5597.jpeg

My Gus does this as well - sometimes he has massive poops like this! I think it might just be a boar thing? I’ve only had females up until this point so it was a huge shock!

I too think it's a boar thing and I've noticed it more with intact boars than with neutered ones. I'm sure it's nothing to worry about....but maybe I should be worried?

I’m actually planning on having my Gus neutered (he’s a single skinny pig, I adopted him from work and he was supposedly on his own for not bonding with other pigs well, so the plan is to neuter and find him a girlfriend!) - I was going to do the procedure but I’m currently treating his abscess and I’ll have to wait a while to afford the procedure after paying off his current vet fees and treating his abscess. It could be interesting to check out if his poops change once I’m able to have his neuter done?

Edward is neutered and his poos are usually smaller than his wives poos which is what got me worried him suddenly producing these mammoth poos. It seems to be the norm though, especially for intact boars so I wouldn’t worry

I shouldnt worry Claire those poos still look a nice shape and consistency.
Ollie's poops are... rather like the British weather lol I never know what will happen next but can get a vague idea to expect the worst if there is an "amber broccolli warning" that they might be black sticky ones!
Ollie is neutered but he had a big post-neuter abscess and has wonky mishapen hips so his anal sack is like... big unpredictable thunder clouds lol, even Ollie gets surprised what his bottom does sometimes!
There's so much poopy variation between different piggies and between different veg meals, if it isnt too squishy its fine- if it is a bit squishy cut out leaves for a couple of days, and if its a bit small and dry give him some cucumber :)

There are two factors in play with the length of poos:
- The stretched anal sack between the fully descended testicles in full/not neutered teenage and adult boars; baby boars and neutered boars minus their testicles have the same poos as their sisters/wives.
- The gut exit where poos are firmed up and expressed. Poos that stay longer in this area can sometimes become longer; especially in older boars that get just that little bit weaker at the bum end.

The length of poos is usually nothing to worry about as long they have normal thickness and consistency.
PS: Pain in the firming up/expressing area can sometimes cause shorter poos.
