Thanks, will give it a go.Not sure if what I want to do will work but for what I paid for it will donate to.rescued it doesnt

I'd personally want to use something like f10 or virkon onit after youve got stains off. Purely because they kill more bacteria / fungal etc.. I bought some f10 concentrate for around £10 and you just need a squirty bottle and you dilute yourself you only need 4mls to make a litre so its very cheap!

Agree on the white vinegar (cheap stuff from asda/tesco) and also for disinfecting the cage afterwards - though I think you could do this with a diluted bleach solution as well or milton ... just rinse well after use?

Exciting though - new cage! What is it and who is it for?
x

cheap brown vinegar works too, I use it purely because the cages that come with rescues usually use a bottle or more each! so its just a lot cheaper :-) cillit bang also works on cages though its not piggy safe so requires thorough rinsing ... there are cages that seriously need this level of "bang" when they arrive :-( for routine cleaning though white vinegar is handy and smells better

My ultimate cleaner is bicarbonate of soda & it's great at deodorising smells. Added to vinegar to make a paste it removes most marks without any harmful chemicals

You'd be suprised ... I'm a chemist and not allowed to handle bicarbonate of soda without gloves, specs and the use of a dust booth haha

Really? I use it everywhere in the house lol most products don't agree with me but I love bicarb

Yep lol! Most household products generally regarded as harmless should be used with gloves and a pair of specs to cover your eyes incase you splash it :-) The powder can cause respiratory tract irritation its not toxic or harmful really but it can cause skin irritation especially if it were to get in your eyes :-) or if you were to make a solution with boiling water dont breathe that in :-) I appreciate I sound OTT but I'm a chemist and had a few chemical burns so far and they're not nice and I'm used to writing safety bumfff at work so just know these things and yes I wear safety glasses and marigolds when cleaning :-P

I wear specs all the time so that's kind of protective right? Lol I tend not to wear gloves because I usually have a worse reaction to the gloves than the products. Damn eczema :-/

Do you know,... I never thought of useing malt vinegar to clean cages! Or cillit bang! But I have doused a cage in bleach in the past and rinsed it multiple times.

I had a stainless steel pan which had burnt on homemade white sauce on it. I had cillit banged it scrubbed it soaked it and it still had burnt on sauce. In the end I filled it with malt vinegar lemon juice bi carb and left it for a few days. After which I added salt for abrasion and used some crumbled up tinfoil to wipe it and I cleaned up perfectly. Just goes to show the old fashioned remedies are the best!
