Getting A Sow For Two Males.

Hi!

My friend has a sow and no one in her family really properly takes care of her. My friend didn't want the guinea pig because it scratches and bites her and didnt like her one bit after that. She really wanted a cat instead so she asked me if I wanted the pig so she can get a cat. I would love to take the sow home but I have to males and don't want to risk pregnancy. The sow used to have a boar but she must of attacked him and he passed. I dont know if she's neutered and my mum is still thinking about three piggies. If mum says no Ill tell her to give the sow to Assisi animal rescue if her family wants to.

If I get the sow do I have to neuter all the guinea pigs or just the sow? How much does it cost to neuter? And whats the recommended cage space for three piggies?

If you put a sow in with 2 boars it will never work. The boars will fight. You can have 1 boar in with a sow or a group of sows But not 2.

Yes please do not put the sow with two boys.

I think the boys will also fight if she is near enough to them in the same vicinity as they will smell her.

There are very good threads on pairings etc in this forum that will also help with advice

Don't put her with them but you could make her a separate cage to keep her in

Good idea I never thought of that! But keeping her in our spare rabbit cage can be an option!

If she is under or in sight of the boars this could cause fights as well.Good luck getting her out if there.
