Gerbils!

It's been 3 years since we last had gerbils and I've really been missing them. I decided a couple of months ago to start accumulating toys, loo roll tubes etc and today... we collected a beautiful pair of brothers.

They are absolutely nuts, the brown agouti has been called Rocket, because he launched himself out of the ladies hands when she went to put him into the carrier the other one we're not sure about yet, but I'm sure he will let us know his name soon enough!

Aw thanks, I'm really lucky my indoor cat ignores the small furries for the most part. They're such busy little things, I cant wait to get to know them.

I had a gerbil once a loooong time ago. He was called Cecil.

I was just thinking that he was nuts when I read yours are nuts too. So that must be normal gerbil behaviour lol.

He ate his house, he ate his toys and he ate a whole bag of food that I left on top of his cage.

I’ve had gerbils, they are amazing little creatures. You can spend all day watching their antics

They really are quite destructive, they chewed up an entire loo roll tube in the 20 minutes it took to get them home! But all of the ones we've had have been massive characters, very entertaining little things.

It’s great that your cat ignores the small furries. Sadly, Austin and Morris are just too inquisitive over them so when our last gerbils passed away, we said we’d take a long break from having then again x

We've decided to call the little brown and white chap Basil they've had a very busy time rearranging their cage, burying everything and creating burrows. They're starting to become less scared and will come out while I'm in the room now, although they don't hang around long. Basil did take a pumpkin seed from my hand this morning though, which was nice.

We did have a slight issue in that I realised the water bottle they had, wasn't letting out any water! They kept me up all night rattling the bottle and totally ignoring the pieces of cucumber I gave them. So, on the way home from the vet with Poppet I ran into pets at home and got them a brand new bottle, which they promptly ignored but at least it does work and the water level has gone down a little so they do seem to have been using it.
