Hello and welcome. It could be the start of impaction or something else but either way, he may be uncomfortable

My late Edward was swollen a few years ago. It turned out he had a sperm rod stuck in his penis and as soon as that was out, the swelling went down

If you can’t see anything stuck that can be easily removed, I’d have him checked by a vet if you think his genitalia looks different than normal x

thank u, ill def take a look again but i dont think hes got anything stuck in his penis, thank u for responding! 🤍

Bless him. That does look swollen. I’d definitely get that checked out by a vet as soon as you can. Is it hot and red to the touch?

I had an older boar with impaction and it didn’t really look like that. He just used to get a large ball of stinky soft poop stuck that I had to remove twice a day. He could still poop his normal poops though.

Is he eating and drinking and pooping fine? I’d weigh them both daily to make sure they are eating ok.

How old is your boy?

In a young boy, it is usually the descent of the testicles, in a middle aged or older boar it is more likely impaction, which affects about 10% of all older boars but an unsuitable diet too low or lacking in hay can massively contribute to the problem.

If you have any concerns, please see a vet after the weekend. The genitalia don't look inflamed or sore.

hes eating alright from wat ive observed.. drinking good too! pooping he does have a bit of trouble here and there but I'm guessing its cause his rears a bit swollen, and when he does poo its quite smelly

wat type of scales would be best for this? i bought some baby scales a while back when i was weighing my kittens but not sure if those would work with guinea pigs too

Hi

Cheap supermarket or online kitchen scales will do. If you have baby scales that are fine for around 1 kilo, then that is perfectly ok as well. You are looking for changes in weight, not exact weights that are needed to compute correct medical dosages. ;)
