So, I was checking the piggies today, and noticed that Gem had a small lump on the bottom of her neck. It's super tiny, and I can move it all the way to the left side of her jaw. It's not super close to the skin, so I can't really get a picture, and there's been no fur loss in the area, lack of appetite, signs of pain, etc. We'll be scheduling a vet appointment shortly. Just out of curiosity, what could I be doing that could possibly give her the lump. Some of you may remember that Coco, my RB piggie, got cysts all the time near the end. Is it possible I've been doing something to cause this?

Hi!

Please get off the guilt trip; lumps generally happen without your doing. Just because you are the owner, it doesn't mean that everything is a fault of yours; stuff happens all the time without your doing. You just concentrate on what you can constructively do instead of working yourself up over things that are not under your control. ;)

It will take a hands-on vet examination to establish the exact nature of the lump. Location, texture, how loosely or firmly something is attached to the skin will all go into the diagnosis. Sight unseen and hands-off, a guessing game would be counterproductive for you much more than helpful. Take it from what your vet says. I hope that this is just a small harmless sebaceous cyst sitting loosely in the skin.

Thankyou! I also hope it's nothing major. Thankfully I caught it quick! I was just curious if it could be something I was doing since Coco got them too. Is there anything I can do for right now to help the lump, or would that be better determined after the vet visit?

No, there is nothing you can do about a lump. They are quite common as piggies get older. some piggies are much more prone to having them; there is obviously a genetic disposition in play. In the neck area there are some other possibilities so it is good to have that vet checked.
