Hi! I gave my pigs one "Special Rewards Menu Teddy Treat" each yesterday and then half of one each today.

I just looked it up today (I thought the person who gave me them would've done research prior so it wasn't a major concern at first) but upon looking it up it says it's not good for them. Here's a pic of the ingredients and the front of the bag.

Will they be okay or should I take them to the vet?20241226_145850.webp20241226_145837.webp

Please note that I only got dry treats for them because I wanted to put it in the center of a toilet paper roll with hay in it for enrichment. I also only gave them some today because they were chewing their new tunnel and I didn't want them to 😭

I don't think there's anything there that is positively harmful in a small quantity, they just are of no nutritional benefit. Wheat isn't a natural part of a guinea pigs diet, but won't hurt them - but better for treats are the kind of forage foods they would find in the wild such certain herbs and flowers, which can be purchased in dried form too.

Hi

Please take a deep breath. These things are not good to feed regularly but they are not so harmful that a one off is a problem. They are just the piggy equivalent of junk food. ;)
