Hello everyone.. I am hoping to get some thoughts and opinions on my current situation.

My sweet baby girl is experiencing a very difficult situation. The emergency vet is telling me she has a GDV and I’m so scared I don’t know what to do. I already paid 2k for her to be there over night and get testing and be on pain meds so she’s stabilized for now but I know it’s a low survival rate so I’m so stuck right now. I plan on getting her booked for surgery in 3 hours.

I am very sorry for the bad news. It is all our nightmare to get one of those.

A twisted gut in guinea pigs is unfortunately very painful and it is untreatable. The deterioration - if it is that - will be very quick since a guinea pig gut is very thin and much longer than that of a dog.

I sincerely hope that it isn't that and that your are simply dealing with bloat, which is bad enough. Has an x-ray or scan been taken?

What was the outcome? We caught it too late in one of mine. I woke up one morning and he was unwell, not eating, had a wet chin, and was coughing up liquid. We had two choices - a surgery that could kill him, or put him to sleep.
