Hi, so after Theo was poorly I got him some syrup from Galens Garden to support his urinary tract. It's called UT syrup.

I haven't given him any though as I don't know how to! On the bottle it says to give 0.5ml per kg of bodyweight 3 times a day, but when I opened it it smells of alcohol.
Has anyone come across these syruos before?

I’ve not actually heard of it, so I’ve just looked it up and it does say it contains alcohol and that the alcohol has to be evaporated off before use (provided I’ve looked at the right thing!). I’m not sure I would use it to be honest, having looked it up. Have you spoken to your vet about it?
Oxbow natural science urinary support for small animals would be what I would look towards in such a situation

I spoke to a vet nurse who confirmed it has the required herbs but I didn't ask abiut the alcohol

I’ve bought from Galens Gardens for years for forage (brilliant stuff for chins on there) but never used a syrup. I’d stick to old fashioned grass and good veg!. Most definitely don’t give anything that smells of alcohol as already said!

He does get a variety of veg every day as well as lots of forage, I was just looking for something extra to try and prevent more issues 😊

I give my bladder pigs the Oxbow Urinary support and also cystease. I’ve never heard of the Galen’s Garden syrup to be honest. I would ask your vets to check the label and details for you.

I looked up the Oxbow tablets and some of the ingredients are the same as the ones in the syrup.
Do you find the tablets make a difference?

It’s hard to tell. We now have the cystitis issues under control. We follow the low calcium diet, filter the drinking water and then give cystease and the Oxbow tabs. So without stopping one of them I can’t say what contribution each play.

Oh okay that makes sense. I started flitering water too. I also changed to a grain free dry food (versele - laga cavia complete) and I give less high calcium veg. He has been doing pretty well but I read that once problems like this start they keep coming back that's why I want something extra.
I think I will order the oxbow tablets, thank you 😊
