Hi everyone, as I mentioned my almost 8 year old guinea Ginny was prescribed Gabapentin .05 and meloxicam for her atrophy and loss of movement in her back legs and hips, a little bit her front paws too. Tonight, after I gave her the PM dose of gaba, I saw about an hour after that she was acting very sleepy and trying to lay on her side. Her poops and appetite were still good, but she was chewing slower and wasn’t going as crazy for hay. I kept her close for over an hour, gave her water via syringe which she loved, some cucumber and a little letter, more hay, and she slowly started to get more energy back and look less sleepy/weak. Now it’s been about 3 hours since the gaba dose and she’s eating very fast, has better balance, more energy, and etc. However she still is falling asleep or resting for a few mins between eating.

Is this normal? Please give any advice or knowledge. I was terrified for so long that something horrible was happening before calling the vet and they said it could be the sedative effects.

Please let me know. Also, is it okay to give her water via syringe? She can’t really walk anymore and I do put her up to the bottle most of the day, but she loves the syringe water too.

Thank you
