Hello again forum!
Hoping once again you more experiences GP owners can advise on this one. Something I have only noticed in the past 2-3 days (we have had our girls just over a week now) and just this morning something quite odd/worrying?!
First thing, funny noises - I think just coming from one of the piggies, but not sure, a kind of purring sound? Hope it doesn't sound as weird as it sounds, it's like an electronic purr sound (please don't laugh!), is this a happy/pleasant thing, or is this a sad or threatening thing?
Second thing, this morning, a long with the 'weird purr sound' for the first time this morning I noticed that one of the piggies, and I can't think of another way to describe this without it sounding rude, but 'mounted' the other from behind. Yes it kind of looked like 'that', but I was assured by the pet store they were both females! Sooooo, could it just be a comfort thing? She does tend to do this when I walk in the room and they do their usual scarpering for their lives thing! Or could the pet store have got it wrong?! Help!

Hi and welcome!

One of your girls is in season hence the rumblestrutting and the mounting, which is also mild dominance behaviour and practised by both sexes. Please always double check the sex of any new arrivals. With sows you generally see it during bonding and when in season.

You may find our starter kit of informative guides for new owners helpful as it should answer many of your questions in much more detail than we can in one post: " Starter Kit" Of Information Threads For New Owners

We have got lots more guides at the top of each Care section, but you are welcome to ask any question you may have in here.

The purring/rumbling/mounting is a common dominance behavior, even in females, and can happen more often if one of the females is in heat. The links should give you more information, but it sounds within the range of normal behavior!
