One of my girls has a fungal ear infection (we're not having much luck lately, treating them for mites, too) but its really difficult to clean and apply the cream/solution to her ear, especially as the worst of it is mostly in the inner ear parts. To say she isn't keen on my prodding is an understatement, and I can't reach some parts - will it clear up with the rest of the area being treated successfully?

Also, has anyone had any kind of oral medication for a piggy fungal infection? I might need to consider something like that if we can't clear up the ear with this stuff alone. :{

She's not on 'meds' as such (not yet, anyway) we're using a combination of shampoo used for mites, bacteria etc (as one of her cage-mates is showing signs of mites), and a fungal spray bought in store, though we're not spraying it directly onto her. Dad wants to see how that goes before we put her through the stress of a vets visit.

I'll have to get back to you on the name of the stuff.

Edit: I've just been looking up fungal infection treatments and it says the infection could lead to fitting. Is this an uncommon symptom?!

Then I'm going to say the obvious. Go to a vet and get the correct diagnosis and the right treatment. The earlier you treat fungal with the right products, the easier is it to get rid of. Waiting lets it get a good hold and it is a much longer job.

We've got the treatment, but its giving it to her thats the problem. I don't want to have to give her oral medication if it can be avoided, so I could do with advice on how to best treat her ear. Her ear is clearing well on the bits that are easily reached, but not the folds on the inside.

Further to my previous post, the name of the stuff is miconazole :) Still having difficulty applying it to some parts :{
