hello. iv been looking at my pixals front paws and on one foot he has a couple nails growing sideways not straight out? hes in no pain happy chappy but none of my other boys nails do this. does anyone know what might be the cause? something is telling me inbreeding but just woundered if anyone knows different?

Thank you,

Is it the outer two claws on the front paws? I've seen lots of pigs with their outer claws twisted inwards/sideways a bit, I think it's a self-perpetuating problem as when they're twisted they won't wear down properly. Is this what you mean?

Make sure they're trimmed as short as they can be, & keep an eye on him to make sure they're not causing any discomfort.

this happens with one of mine when his nails need a clipping...
cut them as short and straight as you can...
if you keep on top of the nails and keep them short i dont think it causes any lasting problems... he is fine...

One of my pigs, Linney, has nails that grow in all directions- we just have to keep them trimmed short. I don't know of any particular reason why they would grow that way, but they do. My other pigs have all had nails that grow straight and are easier to clip.

My Peppa's front paws have nails that do this - he has a regular manicure but they still grow back curly - doesn't seem to bother him.
