I've been tracking Frigg's weight since her rescue, but I'm not sure if it okay for her age. Can someone look at her chart I attached and give advice? This recent weigh in that makes me nervous. She looked like she was gaining great, now this week :-( Now, I do see her eating. I have to keep the 2 girls apart for the morning greens since queen piggie likes to snatch them all up. So, I feed them on separate sides of the cage and stand there and wait until the little one has eaten as much as she can of her pile. And while watching my webcam I can see she eats throughout the night. She doesn't eat a whole bunch of hay but she does snack on it throughout the day.

The good thing is that she’s not losing weight. Perhaps switch to weighing her (once) daily at the same time for a week and see how she goes. You worry when there is a 50g+ loss or a continual downward trend. But she has gained weight so it doesn’t look worrying.

There is no ‘weight range’ because they come in all shapes and sizes. So it’s about her heft and what’s right for her body.

In general, not eating veg shouldn’t affect weight as it’s such a small portion of their diet. With regards your other girl hogging, have you tried hand feeding the veg or scatter feeding? What does affect it is the amount of hay. But as said she has gained so must still be eating enough.

Yes I have tried scattering it and when Queen piggy is eating her pile as soon as the baby starts nibbling on hers Queen Piggy will go running and snatching the food away. She's still in that phase of she wants everything the baby has. Whether it is food beds anything. She just likes to hog at all.

Hi!

The weight gain is still very much within the acceptable range. Please accept that the more often you weigh, the more irregular any weight gain will get. It is never clockwork even. She has been gaining A LOT at first so you usually get this kind of slow down once her deficit/richer diet have done their work and filled her bodily reserves. It means that she has caught up and is now running on normal. Under 4 months of age, the weight gain is usually around 20g per week (i.e. it can range from about 0-50g in any given week).

As long as she is not losing any weight and is lively and eating well, you need not worry. She still has over a year before reaching adulthood and will optimise her genetically determined size and weight on your good normal care in that time. How and when she does is very elastic; just concentrate on your normal good care and it will out for the long run, which is the important thing. ;)

PS: My Heilin did put on 50g every week for the first three weeks when I adopted her at 3 months old but then stopped gaining weight for the next three months. She is now a perfectly average weight and size as an adult in the prime of her life.
