I've mentioned several times on here about freecycle (the stop landfill organisation) allowing posts for re-homing animals. The pitfalls are obvious with no checks regarding animal health & suitability of people wanting to adopt the animals. Our local rescue has taken in several guinea pigs & rabbits after I saw them posted on there. I've complained about this & again on Friday after seeing a post for 13 week old bunnies, see:- http://groups.freecycle.org/freecyclethirsknorthallerton/posts/33361089

As a result I didn't get a reply but there was a new admin post this morning titled "OFFERING PETS FOR RE-HOMING", see:- http://groups.freecycle.org/freecyclethirsknorthallerton/admin/40771

Basically they're not going to stop these posts. What do you think about it?

It is so irresponsible of them. They clearly do not care about animals at all just like Gumtree.

My local free cycle does not allow these kind of adverts, and remove all reported ad's that slip through the net.

My local freecycle is strict and does not allow any animal posts or people trying to rehome pets on there and i know the local ones on facebook, including my group never allow any animal to advertised on the groups or for free

Chesterfield freecycle allows post but puts a strong disclaimer and a list of helpful animal links under the advert. However, they don't add the disclaimer if it is an advert from the local rspca. Not happy that the ads are allowed at all.

I emailed my 4 other local freecycles for Hartlepool, Redcar & Cleveland, Stockton-on-Tees & Teesdale & asked them if animal posts were allowed, They all came back stating "No" I did a further check on line & found that Stockton-on-Tees states on their guideline page that animal posts are not allowed. I couldn't find anything disclaimers on other 3 websites mentioning not allowing animals.

So it seems that Northallerton & Thirsk are my only local freecycle that are allowing animal posts. If there's any forum members who are also members of the Northallerton & Thirsk freecycle please contact their mod team with your disapproval, their email address is near top of page in blue.

I hate them, this year alone I have taken in 3 lots of guinea pigs in free ads on gumtree which I have been alerted too, I don't even look on freecycle or gumtree anymore its too heartbreaking :(

A lot of them that I have seen tend to be breeders. It breaks my heart. There is one particular one in my area on one of those sites which has a tiny, tiny cage (honestly looks like a hamster one) and they say they have nursed it back from a URI - which is what I just lost my Nutty to - and just want to give it away because it costs them too much money.

The poor baby. I have been known to message some of the worst, advising they take them to a rescue but what can I say to a breeder or someone who doesn't want to listen?!

I'm trying to avoid them, particularly at the moment, because it breaks my heart and while I am grieving for Nutty there is a good chance I will fall completely for one and want to save it.

Remember the saying, you can't save them all. If you don't have the strength to walk away from them, I'd suggest you don't visit the sites.

i go through the sites and any ads that are free to a good home or someone looking I direct them to here. It makes me feel better as I don't have the resources to help directly. Even if I only save one from a bad home it is worth it. I don't get upset-bit angry sometimes but you can't save them all
