Katie & Nalas cage has always been left open (I've always hated the idea do 'locking' them in) and this week they decided they to go exploring. They now happily toddle around my room, even venturing out into the hall now and again. From what I can tell they only come out when I'm in the room, no chewed wires or even a single poop in sight. They seem a lot happier and more relaxed with all this space :) image.webp

thats so cute. i want to let my piggies free range but SOMEONE always chews plastic (looking at you turtle) no reason why, actively seeks it out, wires, wrappers, toys, etc. so no free range piggies for me

Aww, we let our pigs free range on the bed, with supervision. I'm afraid that's the best we can do. They try to go under the sofa- we've got so many furnishings and cabinets, they'd get lost!

If they can free range unsupervised I'd suggest blocking off access to cables or using a cable wrap/protector just in case they get adventurous.

All the cables are out of reach except one which isn't connected to anything but is secured to the wall so I can't remove it. The only thing they've gone for is the corner of their cage for some reason but I've put a wooden chew toy in the way so they can gnaw at that. Katie is still a bit shy but Nala happily wanders about for hours then goes back to bed when she's had enough.

Wow, when I let mine out like that, Honey poos for England. Drives me nuts as otherwise I'd let them out all the time.

I'm amazed that you dont get puddles and poos all over your carpet!
But I love the idea of free range piggies. I bet they love it.

The joys of wooden flooring. They have a blanket outside their cage so they can get traction for jumping In and out the cage, the only mess is from woodshavings. It took them a bit of getting used to the slidey floor but they can even popcorn on it now

Oh then they are very clever ;) I have polished floorboards down stairs and my piggies hated to walk on the boards! I have to put fleeces down!

Free range Piggy over here too! I love it when she just comes over to us for cuddles or sleeps under the chairs. I was incredibly fortunate however than Bramble 'toilet trained' herself at about 8 weeks old and always uses the cage for her business. We have the odd mistake but not often. I LOVE having her free range.

Free ranging piggies here too! I love watching Toby & Barney zooming around the furniture. They decided that their favourite place is underneath the big recliner chair - it is just like a great big hidey, so I have had to cover the carpet there with puppy pads as they spend all the morning there. We have occasional poops around and about so I keep a hand vac accessible at all times. The bottoms of my gorgeous floor length curtains are now covered in piggy fur as Barney in particular loves shoulder bashing them and every so often he makes himself a little cave inside the folds for a nap. They get locked back in the hutch and run at night - their little faces are hilarious - they look absolutely furious that they have been restricted. But as soon as I turn the lights off and go upstairs they jump from the run to the hutch and go up the ramp and settle down for the night. They are just so cute. They have developed a really bad habit of nibbling our feet and trying to climb up legs when we sit down to have dinner, as if to say - 'well? where's ours?' so we do occasionally have to lock them up while we eat - particularly if having salad!

Luckily there are no wires around for them to chew and I have only known of one wee wee. I do have to get the carpet cleaner out very soon though because they have made the carpet a bit wiffy even without the accidents.
