So I’ve done Freddy’s health check - all good apart from his feet.
He had an issue with red/ pink inflamed soles on his back feet when he went into the rescue in sept.
He had dog loxicam and F10 ointment for a week
They were mildly pink when I brought him home last week.
I’ve included a blurry photo (as he’s so wriggly )
He is on fleece/vet bed so no harsh surfaces
I change the pee pads daily and scoop poop regularly
His feet are reddish on the soles no abrasions, scabs, scratches etc
I’ve booked a vet appt tomorro but I’d welcome the advice of my experienced forum friends as my vet is not totally piggy savvy but has some experience
The rescue said take him to my vet

Aww sorry to hear about his little feet!

When my Odin was very poorly, he ended up with red feet and a spot of bumble foot when he was in the hospital (probably from urine). I found vet bed in his beds to be really useful - so absorbent.

F10 cream is amazing - I've also had good results with this for the horses (for mud fever).

I used to bathe Odin's feet twice a day, thoroughly dry, apply aloe vera and then apply his F10 cream. His feet cleared up in under a week.

Hope he's ok! 🤞

Ah thank you so much for that information ! I’ll get some of aloe Vera and the F10

When I adopted Pretty Patsy she developed Bumblefoot after a few weeks. Just red and inflamed feet not scabs. I took her to the vet and the vet said that she had most likely had it in the past and the stress of being in around 3 different homes and meeting 2 new guinea pigs in around 5 weeks had brought it to the fore again. I had her on fleece and vet bed and gave her feet epsom salt baths daily until they got better. Luckily I managed to catch Patsy's Bumblefoot before it got too severe.

First I got everything ready:

Epsom Salt bath, clear water bath and towel

Firstly she went in the Epsom Salt bath for 5 minutes.

then it was into another bath with just plain water in to soak of the Epsom salt bath

and then dried her off

and rubbed F10 cream into her feet (I put gloves on to do the creaming part and I didn't want it on my skin). I then popped her on a snugglesafe so that her fur dried off properly.

It took a few weeks to get better so you have to be persistent.

Ah what a beautiful piggy ❤️
I wonder if stress could be behind Freddy’s feet - the stress of a new home as in the rescue he had this on entry and it was sorted with antibiotics/F10 cream but then coming home to me is another stressful time ….

I wondered if it may have been brought on by stress as Patsy's was so I thought it was worth a mention.

It made me think after reading about lovely Patsy and Odin - do you think I should get him checked by the vet…..that would be more stress or should I try all the things you and @Bradshaw Piggies suggested - he’s a sensitive little pig

I'd take him to the vet even though its a bit more stress. It's a good idea to get a new piggy vet checked anyway. I always do. Take his new best friend along to help minimise the stress.

I had a piggy (Winifred) who got bumblefoot in a her last months - she had painful arthritis and tended to sit in one place a lot. I didn't notice (because they were in a hutch ) until a scab had formed then pulled off and bled.

Your piggy's feet don't sound like they have got anywhere near that bad @Roselina , so I should think you will be able to prevent anything developing into full-blown bumblefoot.

My vet gave Winifred baytril (because an infection had got into the flesh to cause the scab etc), and we used CLX wipes to clean the feet and Flamazine cream to soothe and deal with any germs. She was already on pain relief for the arthritis. The condition got a lot better, the vet said that if it wasn't completely cured it was at least stable. She had black feet so we couldn't see any redness ...

Hopefully keeping the feet clean and using cream (F10 or Flamazine) will be enough to clear up Freddy's sore feet and stop him getting bumblefoot.

PS your photo didn't attach?

Thank you everyone
I think I forgot to add the photo
He’s very wriggly and I struggled to get a good photo
We have a vet appt tomorro and Geoff will be going to 🥰

That does look like it must feel a bit sore. But hopefully no open wound that could let infection in. Hope your vet gives you some suitable treatment for him 💓

Patches’ feet look red like that sometimes too, after he had bumblefoot at the rescue - I was given some balm by the rescue to use on his feet nightly and that calms it down. Though he had a spate of having very red feet and one was just beginning to blister so I took him to the vet and we had a short round of antibiotics and a painkiller to get it under control again, which worked

I don’t have any other experience with bumblefoot though. I hope the vet today can give you some advice - my vet told me as Patches had it quite severely before he was rescued, he might have flare ups through his life, but as long as I keep catching it early and use fleece bedding that I change regularly etc then it should be perfectly managable

Thank you everyone
Freddy saw the Vet and he has dog loxicam 2x a day for 7 days and was impressed I knew about the Epsom salts and F10 so thank you everyone for excellent advice 🥰 she did think it could be stress as no damage just reddish back feet
Freddy was a hit with the staff as they had never had a skinny pig in the practice ! So he had a lot of attention …..was he bothered….no just hid away 😂

Hope Freddy's feet heal up nicely.

Is he tame enough for you to give him the treatment?

No…..he’s a wriggly piggy so I’ll wrap him up in a blanket - the Vet said try to bathe his feet but if it’s impossible just gently wash with warm water and dry and apply F10 ointment - she thinks it should improve nicely.
I’m going to try the Epsom salt bath and see if he can cope 🤞
At Wood Green they didn’t bathe his feet just applied the F10

Have looked back on Patsy's thread and it was 1 tblsp of Epsom Salts to 150ml of warm water.

Thank you Betsy ! I’ll have a go and try the mashed pellets ! Luckily Freddy is always hungry 😂

Of course Freddy is always hungry! Guinea pigs are appetites with fur or in Freddy's case he's an appetite with no fur!
