Junior Guinea Pig
My herd has doubled from 4 to 8! I moved to a lovely new apartment and gained some space to extend the piggy kingdom. I'd made a few inquiries on Guinea Pig Finder, hoping to locate a new piggy or two in need of a home, and nothing had panned out. Then I texted a small home rescue (actually they usually rescue wild animals, but someone turned a family of guinea pigs in to them and they did the research to care for them) and they answered immediately!
First I brought home a pair of 4-week-old baby girls and named them Lily and Iris. I set them up on dates with each of my female pairs and they matched beautifully with Juniper and Penny. Both are very maternal with them. Iris has hair like a troll doll as well as an impressive butt mohawk. Lily is quite shy but she's warming up to being held and fed by new humans.
I texted the rescue a couple days later to ask how the rest of the family was doing in their new homes. While the pair of baby boys had been adopted, it turned out they had already rejected the offers on Mama & Dad they'd had lined up. Since they were the last pigs left, they'd go with the c&c cage parts and equipment... so I could build even more pig space... I was like... uhm... let me think... mine now! I rushed over to pick them up and they're just wonderful.
Dad still has a couple more weeks before he's safe to run with the ladies, but he's been participating in group floor time/bonding activities from under a travel cage top. Weighed down with a cushion in case he decides to go all Hercules and try to lift it. He is a very beefy boy. I named him Clover!
I named Mama Pig, Sylvie. She is very sweet. She likes to sleep in a pile with her pups and even the other adult females when they let her. Her hair is super wacky!
Even though Parlsey and Sage didn't gain any cagemates, the extra stimulation of having so many neighbors has been great for them. I'm seeing a lot more zoomies. Parsley likes to kiss everybody through the grids.
