What do you all think of fostering animals?

I am going to ask mum if I can do it... Foster a cat, my dog loves cats (in a nice way ;D) and it cant get to the animals... It could be like an extra credit thing for my school or somthing... caring for animals? lol

So... what do you all think?

Do you mean like look after them for a bit until they are rehomed? I don't know really - I suppose it could be a good point for your school (or should I say 'home'!) work but there's bound to be extra costs involved for you. Aren;t you already saving up to have Wilson neutered as well as other things? Sorry, please don't think i'm being negative but there are lots of things to think about O0

Yer... there is alot... dont worry I dont think your being negative... mum will probably say no anyway!

We would prob have to wait until all the piggies are neautered... and I have a job etc...

I'm always asking mum if I can have a cat or a dog and all that... I just thought a foster animal isnt a permanent pet... but I still get the satisfaction of helping an animal :smitten:

I dunno :-\ I guess its a silly idea... mum will def say NO :(

I don't think it's silly, I think you're really thoughtful trying to help. I'm sure you can discuss the practicalities of it with your Mom :)

Get all your facts together first to show your Mom - it shows you're serious about it and have put a lot of thought in, and although I'm probably saying the obvious, have a conversation about it - don't go in all guns blazing and your Mom might just surprise you. She'll certainly listen more i'm sure, even if it's a plan that she says maybe would be better in a few years, that's better than not at all, and better than a 'No' :)

Ill go on the site now... and print it all out :smitten:

Thanks bobbysgirl!... ill get her to sit with me tomorow and have a nice talk with her... :) hehe I'm happy... I hope she says yes... and like you said, even if it isnt right away :)

;D I'm writing up a PRO and CON page to show to mum... the PRO list is like a mile long, and I'm struggling to think of CONS ;D

ANy suggestions as to why its a bad Idea? Or any as to why its a good idea? ;D thanks! lol

cons- ummmm ummmm ?

ummmmmmm maybe cos you have to pay for food and stuff lol

Yep... got that ;D Thanks :)

For the cons I have...

Mum has to drive me to the RSPCA
We have to buy food

lol... I would only be able to get a cat... and theyre not that hard to look after... lol

HOLD ON! lol just thought of somthing...
Heres a quote from the website...

"The RSPCA will provide any veterinary treatment that the animal may require"
"The RSPCA also provides all food for the foster animal."

So basicly there are no CONS :)

other than she has to drive you, i wanna do that, but cos of the cat i cant (shes always shut in the kitchen as she straches the furniture and dosnt want to come in anyway)

>costs involved e.g adhoc vets bills (unexpected as and when) routine vets bills (checks etc) , food, bedding, general care (shampoo, flea stuff, brushes), toys, scratch posts, cat litter, litter tray, leads for a dog

>extra responsibility involved in the care of them, alongside your other pets. Sitters needed if you go away?

>extra mess to clean up

>do you have the extra time? Will it eat into your studying time?

>space - where will you put the other pet beds for them to sleep, as well as their toys etc.

>will they get on with the animals you already have?

>would you get attached?

Can't really think of anything else :-\

edit to add - scrap the food and vets bills then, just read your other post while I tried to post this ;D

;D it says if you have pets you ca still do it... but all your pets need to be fully vaccinated :)

Not sure if they do it in the UK.. they must do... hmmm

Kelly - It says the animal remains the property of the RSPCA and you have to take it back when requested. It also says... you are not obligated to take any animal at any time...

But we would def have to ask that... thanks :)

thats a problem maybe i should foster two piggies and then get my Dad attched to them O0

Bobbysgir -

1. RSPCA pays for all that...
2. Dont need sitters ;d we never go away... Ihave alot of spare time so it wouldnt really affect that...
3. theres one :)
4. Definatley have spare time ;D bucket loads of it! lol
5. Spare room maybe? Or I could ask the RSPCA if it is okay for it to sleep on the beds? Thats where the dog sleeps ;D
6. If you have other pets, you have to take them to the RSPCA to see if they get along... Bronx is pretty good with cats :)
7. Possibly ;D But I would also feel good, letting them go to a good home :smitten:

Ill write this list out and show it to mum :) Thanks bobbysgirl ;)

No problem, hope you don't think i've tried to be down about it - just trying to help :)

No I dont think that :) Youve really helped... Hope you dont think I was trying to put you down by having a come-back to everything you said :(

I'm just trying to be positive ;D

;D i think you both understand lol!

She said no :-\

Well, at least you can comfort yourself with knowing that you researched it and looked at both sides of the story without just jumping in. I bet your Mom can see that too, it's just probably not the best time for you? :(

Nope... prob not the best time... when I move out of home... whenever that is ;D I am defintley going to consider it :smitten:

aww (((hugs))) Well i bet you cant wait till then x

;D lol Well... I can but I cant ;D

Ive written a note for mum to read when she wakes up... asking her if we can have a propper converstion about it ;D

didnt you have a proper conversation? ?
