That is the great thing about the community people help. It isn’t just about giving items or paying for things. Everyone helps with advice, kind words of support, comments on photos all these things help people .

It is a special place, that from time to time I sit back and it refills my faith in humanity.

Thank you all

Absolutely, you would indeed. I know there are so many people o here who would have helped out. Lots of amazing people on here. I have never known a community as caring as ours.

It's not been all that long (in the grand scheme of things) since I had to ask you guys for help and I genuinely don't know anywhere else where I'd've got the response I did. We outdo the competition by miles and for good reason!

I'm really glad we're still consistent in terms of growth, forums are a dying medium, but curating out bad or downright dangerous advice is still far more preferable to people being given, frankly dangerous information where there's no moderation strategy. The forum still helps animals in need and perhaps it is in some ways a relic of a bygone era of the internet, but you guys keep it going, giving good advice and making it a competitive and worthwhile place for people.

@sport_billy the transparency you've kept up is brilliant, it's always been like a forum version of the state of the union address .

Thanks man, nothing would have been possible without you. Lest we forget September 2013....

We are indeed a relic of an era gone by one without one stop shops social media. The community will be the thing that keeps us going, stay friendly, give advice, welcome others - that will keep us afloat hopefully for many years. The glory days of forums have gone and will never return :( but we will always have our little corner of the internet where people hopefully feel safe and welcome and part of a group of friends, new and old.

Ha ha, I like that - the state of the forum address. I am always at pains to say we all own the community. Not just those who steward its current incarnation.

You know, September 2013 doesn't feel like all that long ago, but at the same time it's longer than I've lived in England (I moved November '13).

Is it awful to say I'm glad most forums have disappeared? There were so many basic layout forums with like...10 members, max, but they'd all have their own forum so you got 10 forums with the same menus. What's the point? Even these days so many remaining forums are badly maintained, haven't had a UI update in decades...etc, etc. And most of them would have been impossible to navigate using anything but a keyboard and mouse.

We are lucky we have moved with the times a little and software is still being developed for communities like ours.
There are still some huge forums out there... look at mumsnet (scary place that it is :)) ) digital spy even the student room reaching out to those that use social media more than ever.

Mumsnet is definitely one of the scariest places on the Internet. But even smaller ones....like guinea pig cages is so busy my eyes can't focus on anything.

I got ran out of town with flaming pitchforks on GPC for daring to keep my piggies in a shed where predators could get them, they obviously haven't seen my set up! :))

That thread is legendary! :))

I'm still convinced that someone from a certain website that may be of my acquaintance may be responsible for that, although Poe's law still stands, I'm still just as sure that was a real human being, the things I read on here and on the wider internet sometimes are just as bonkers.

I'm jealous of your setup, nevermind jealous of the piggies living in that palace! But honestly, bright white, black writing (and the text is literally in every available space) and damn, I miss having a Night Mode lol.

I do agree, there was a lot of oversaturation, which did cause fragmentation, which did cause a few issues here over a decade ago, just the idea that if someone had a different idea and could easily set up a competitor was just the way the internet worked back then. The Social Media sites had the advantage of being a single point of presence for hobbies, family etc - but to quote someone I know 'they're always on transmit, but rarely on receive'.
