Hello, I´am sorry for my bad english. One of my sow SNOW WHITE(2 years old) making hooting sound from 6 months of her age. She has tooth problem (every 5 weeks trim molars). in the Czech Republic vets do not want to prescribe medicines for heart problems in guinea pigs, even specialist for guineapigs :-/ My little girl does not accurately diagnosed with heart disease, but the two vets said they heard something on the heart (arrhythmia, murmur) and a third said that ultrasonography sees dilated cardiomyopathy likely. But it does not cure in the Czech Republic and in guinea pigs did not know the dosage of drugs.

Symptoms for my guinea pigs are: strange noises, belly breathing, popping bubbles in the nose, tiredness, problems with teeth, breathing problems in anesthesia, loss of muscles (the weight is roughly stable).

guinea pig was on antibiotics - enrofloxacin (35 days), Trimetorpim sulfa (4 weeks) but nothing changed. The vet thought if he had a respiratory infection.

One wrote me a willing veterinarian for Snow White Fortekor 5 MG that I give it only once a day and that the amount I should be adjusted according to the information on this page (I printed information about the heart problem on this page). ALSO she wrote Furon 40 mg per tablet. My guinea pig weighs between 760 (after dental surgery) and 800 grams (one week after a trim). The X-rays can not see the water so the Furon said she would be given only once a day. Fortekor has apparently get too far just once a day. Fortekor benazepril so it's the same as LOTENSIN (which we do not have in the Czech Republic). .... The change should be seen within 7 days and the vet said that I can both drugs (Furon and Fortekor) put together at one time. is it true? .................. So please help me with dosing of drugs. She has 760 to 800 grams, depending on how much food is in the stomach: D I do not know how the video recording of the sounds but I might add him sometimes. I apologize again for the English, I easily translate English but I'm bad at writing and grammar: - / I hope you understand something from my post

Hi,

How much of the 5mg Fortekor tablet are you giving? A whole one is FAR too much. The usual starting dose is 0.625mg once a day. My pig is on 0.625mg 3x a day as her case is extremely advanced.

How much of the 40mg frusemide tablet are you giving? Again, the whole tablet is too much. Usually a starting dose is 1mg twice a day and upped if necessary. Again my girl is on 5 mg 3 times a day but this is due to things being so progressed.

Hope this helps

I still did not give even a single dose. Waiting to board :-) The Czech Republic has only sold Fortekor 5mg tablets. On one page (Guinea Lynx :: Heart) I read that gives 1mg / kg twice daily, the weight of my guinea pig would be about 0.8 mg 2 times a day but the vet wants me to give once a day. :-)

Thank you for answer. How heavy is your guinea pig if you give 0.6 mg Fortekor? Mine is 800 grams. the drug is poorly divided into such small parts. So you think if I'll need 0.6-0.8 mg Fortekor once a day (do not know exactly how to split the pill on the exact amount mg) and 1 mg once daily Furon Nothing can happen? The vet did not see any water on X-rays but she is not a specialist in rodents, but the only one she's trying to do something. Maybe that there is fluid in the lungs, and she missed it. The guinea pig is trying to eat, but it is very tired, a little muscular, makes sounds when you are sleeping, eating, running, doing it all the time: - / Do 2 months ago did it only occasionally, but now it's much worse.

She hovers above 1kg.
I crush 1 2.5mg tablet into 1ml water. I then give 0.25ml which is 1/4 tab. Every 8 hours. But as I say her case is severe, really need a vet to decide what she needs. Hope you can get some help soon x

My boy had 2mg Fortekor once a day.
5mg of Furosemide twice a day.
1.25mg of Vetmedin (split into two doses per day).
I wouldn't recommend messing with doses yourself, please consult your vet with any thoughts on changing the dose.
