Hi guys as use know I'm a new piggy mummy and my girls are so skittish really struggling to catch them for anything but this morning I noticed one seems to have something stuck to the bottom of her foot the hutch is cleaned every day question is how do I get this off feeling so stressed pleas be kind

Please don’t worry. It is probably just some poop.
Encourage her into a box, pet carrier or hide and then pick her up from there. Check what it is that is on her foot. If it is poop it may just flick off (it may even fall off on its own if that is what it is).
If it is poop and it is stuck, you can try to soak her foot in a shallow dish to soften it and then gently wipe it off.
If you are concerned it is anything other than poop, then it may be best to see a vet.
We can only make guesses of course

This guide can help with advice on how to catch them.
It is important to get them used to it as they need to be weighed every week.

Great thank you so much I got them to go into carrier the other day but then yesterday they were to cute for that trick thank you so much for the link also on how to pick them up they are so fast

Food is usually the way to get them to give in! Put some sprigs of coriander or some grass in the carrier and see if that convinces them to go in!

Tried that yest wee rips grab it and run back into hiding lol Def going to keep trying know I need to

Heya! My girls were skittish when we first got them. As all piggies are when they’re still small. We got them just before the covid lockdown so actually having that time off because of lockdown gave us even more one on one time with them and allowed them to get used to us always being around. We did lap time with lots of snacks and beds available so they could get settled. We did floor time so went into a secure room laid out blankets and lots of hides hay and treats and me and my sister would sit and do our college work in the room on the floor and they soon got used to us being there. And be became happy walking around us and coming over to us and eventually coming over to us for snacks. Hand feeding is a great way to bond too. There’s fabulous threads on this forum on bonding too❤️it takes time but with perseverance they will get used to you. Some piggies are naturally skittish my honey has always been quite skittish but absolutely adores a snuggle once on your lap. Every piggies differant and they are a prey species so completely normal for them to have the instincts to run away !

Great thank you so much mine will take food out of hand but that's it how did you catch them to do floor time pleaee

Goodness that takes me back to the days of losing one down the back of the sofa, and another under the coffee table. I would kind of encourage them into a corner by putting barriers where they went (like the log bridge sideways or a box) as they realised that going actually into the box might lead to picking up.

They do settle a bit, partly because the learn to trust you but also as they age but you will get more confident over time too. I used to sit in the pen on the floor with them for ages just to get them better used to me.

Sometimes I used the carrier, I’d place it front of them and they’d run in. Or id do the same with a fleecey hide and carry them through that way. Fleecey hides and beds are great as they feel safe and get so cosy and settled💘
