This has been playing on my mind for weeks now. On Reddit, someone came at me, calling me an abuser because apparently I never clean the hutch and two of my girls died because of a URI because of it. They didn't.
But the person in question told me all my girls would get bumblefoot. And now I feel so bad because Trixie might have. It doesn't look like bumblefoot, it looks a bit red, with a little rough patch. She's going to the vets tomorrow, but what if they say it's bumblefoot? It would make said person on Reddit right, and I'd be an abuser.
The hutch isn't wet. It has lots of absorbtion and if it did get really wet, I'd know and I'd clean it out (Like the time they knocked their bowl over) The other three are fine and have no foot issues at all, it's just Trixie, who lays about a lot and it's only on the one foot.
Am I an abuser?

People who abuse their guinea pigs tend not to spend lots of time on guinea pig forums/booking expensive vet appointments for their piggies. :)
You obviously love your girls very much and want what's best for them, which means you're definitely not an abuser- Reddit seems to attract more than a couple of people who are just out to cause trouble unfortunately.
Best of luck at the vets tomorrow- there have been plenty of cases of bumblefoot on the forum which have been very easily treated.
Get yourself some sleep and try not to worry. Xx

Hi

Block that person on Reddit and report them. You are a very caring owner doing their best and seeing a vet; you are doing all the right things.

The only abuser in the picture is that vile person.

HUGS

No you're not an abuser.
Anti-Social media is full of vile people who are hideously judgemental and get a kick out of being nasty to others. I'd ditch reddit etc and stick to this forum for your guinea pig fix and friendly, helpful advice.

Older (and possibly arthritic) piggies that lay about quite a lot are more likely to be susceptible to bumblefoot - my Winifred (6.5 years old) got it a year ago and I didn't notice it until a scab pulled off and bled on my hand. I felt awful - but I'm not an abuser either. My pigs lived in a hutch, and as they didn't like being held, in winter I only took them out and checked them over twice a week during hutch cleans. I guess I hadn't looked carefully enough at her feet...and observing piggies that live in a hutch outside is rather harder than indoor piggies I think. On the vets advice as well as various meds and foot wipes, I started changing the bedding and pee pads more often to ensure the areas Winnie liked to lie in, didn't get and stay wet under her.

I hope your vet gives Trixie the all-clear tomorrow xx

There's only one abusive person in this story and it's not you!
Good luck at the vets tomorrow and hope Trixie is okay.

You are absolutely not. Social media is a hot bed for trolls who take pleasure in upsetting others.
Just ignore them, you are a great guinea pig owner 😊

I've just caught her nibbling at her foot. I hope she'll stop when the itching stops. I'll clean them out so it can be comfier for her.

I just would like to inform you that her foot is getting better. The redness is gone, although the little rough patch isn't. I have possibly another week of this foot soak stuff to give her. She's not retracting her foot like she did before though, so that's a positive.
