Hello,

My piggies absolutely love cabbage and I'm a bit limited in what I can feed them because they are a little bit fussy about what they will and won't touch in their food bowl.

I know they can eat cabbage but also heard it causes bloat - as does broccoli and cauliflower.

So how much cabbage etc is appropriate on a daily/weekly basis?

xx

Some cabbges are more "bloaty" than others; Brussels sprouts, red and white cabbage are more likely to cause bloat than say, savoy cabbage or sweetheart/pointed cabbage. Kale shoul not be fed too often because it is high in calcium, also spring greens should not be fed daily.

Broccoli and cauli leaves are ideal 2-3 times a week.

If your piggies are used to eating cabbage and you introduce them to it slowly, you shouldn't have a problem. Quite a few places on the continent base their piggy diet on cabbages, and their piggies are no less healthy and long lived!

My own piggies have a small portion of cabbage (mostly sweetheart, varied with savoy and spring greens, cauli leaves) daily as part of their breakfast and some broccoli about 3 times a week for dinner.

Good to know I had previously been giving them sweetheart cabbage and they were fine with it, plus they've had it since they were babies as they were given cabbage even when they were still with their Mum's.

Cabbage, romain lettuce, sweet peppers, cucumber - is about all their eat. They'll eat broccoli too. The cauliflower, I noticed you said leaves - erm, I've been known to give them the actual cauliflower - is that bad? xx
