My guinea pig has his food bowl on the floor, on the woodshavings. But he always gets his feet into the food bowl which has woodshavings on his feet. So i constantly have to fill his bowl up because he cant pick out the pellets out of the bowl. So i was wundering how can i prevent this? Because if i put it on something he normally knocks it over? But can you tell me something without needing to buy anything?...

Thankyou. Kate :)p

plain and simple solution, dont house on shavings, switch to fleece as its virtually no mess or even hay as it wouldnt get in the bowl nearly as much x

Your piggy should be able to nose around and pick out pellets from wood shavings, it shouldn't be a problem for him. xx

So do i not use woodshavings at all?
Because if i use just hay, the cage stinks quicker

newspaper then a layer of hay isnt to bad but i find newspaper then a layer of old towel then fleece on top is very absorbant and with spot cleans lasts quite well, you could also try a mixture of fleece and megazorb as ive hear thats fantastic for keeping it smelling good, how often do you clean the cage/hutch?

I've tried all types of bedding for the pigs and woodshavings gave me nothing but problems - the pigs are in my room so I have to have them smelling okay! Also I found my piggies had wet bottoms on woodshavings even if I mucked them out once a day.

My favourite is towels then fleece, especially if it is spot cleaned once a day.

Cage size matters of course though, the smaller the cage the more smell and more problems keeping mess to a minimum.

Well i normally cleean it just when it stinks really:p. Normally every 2/3 days because he is a very smelly boy :)
