Hi. I have read in previous posts that some of you would not use sprays on your guinea pigs. However, I am concerned about fly strike in the summer. I use to have a rabbit (RIP Casper, my little baby) and we used Johnsons fly strike spray on him and it did him well. It said that it was safe to use on guinea pigs. Just wondering if anyone would recommend it on outdoor piggies?

Do not use any of johnsons products on gps ,they are not safe.Pet shop brands are not recommended.,they all contain potentially toxic substances. The manufacturers are out to make profit, they are not concerned about the animal health. The spray may have worked fin on the rabbit, but is not suitable for a gp.,remember, rabbits and gps are different species.,so what is safe for one may not be for the other.

If the accomodation and sleeping area is kept clean, fly strike should not occur,as flies are only attracted to putrid flesh or faeces.

A small peice of fly screen over the mesh section of their cage also helps keep the flies away if you are worried about fly strike but as maryh says aslong as everthing is clean it should not be a problem O0
