Hello, I'm new to the forum and we are thinking of adopting our first ever guineas x) What do you line your outside hutches with?

I have 7 rabbits at the moment (6 outdoor and 1 indoor) and the outdoor buns all live in sheds with lino flooring and extra large fleece blankets that act as carpet :)

Would fleece blankets be ok on the floor of the hutch? I hate shavings of any form and I use megazorb in litter trays but wouldnt want that everywhere as I could imagine it would be messy! :{ Or do i need to use something else?

Thanks for any advice!

You can use fleece but you need to put something underneath to absorb urine, the fleece will wick moisture down but if it has nowhere to go it just stays wet. People use various combinations of old towels, cotton mattress protectors or puppy pads/incontinence pads. Another thing which can be used is aquaflex (see the thread 'trial of foam bedding' in this section of the forum) again with something underneath to absorb urine.

If they're going to be outdoor pigs it's a good idea to read through this thread to get some tips on keeping them warm over winter as cold temperatures can make them prone to illness and even kill them - http://www.theguineapigforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=54309

Ah ok great...I always have megazorb in anyway as I use it in the buns litter trays! :) So I could use a layer of newspaper...then megazorb and then topped off with hay? does that sound ok?

This sounds fine :) Personnely I think lots and lots of hay is the perfect bedding for outdoor pigs. It allows them to snuggle right up in to it.
