Hello,

Last year we moved our two boys indoors over winter, but the result is that they have to go into a smaller conventional cage, so this year we are going to move their hutch into a shed so we can keep them cosy but also provide more space both for them to play and for us to play with them.

The hutch is a two story one and the lower "run" part doesn't have a bottom. At the moment it is standing on some astro turf (which drains, so keeps the piggies feet dry) on the ground, but in the new set up will be on a wooden bench with storage underneath. I'm thinking we need something waterproof on the wood, to stop it getting damp, dirty, rotten and generally disgusting. Any experience / suggestions for what we could use? I saw one suggestion on line to put a plastic tablecloth but my suspicion is that this might not be very durable and if it gets torn or otherwise damaged I'm pretty confident that Toasty will start trying to eat it...

I'm expecting that we'll put bedding on top of whatever we chose (likely newspaper covered in fleece), if that makes a difference.

Thank you for your help!

Hannah

Would correx be an option, or something like it? It's always used in C&C cages, I can't see it doing any harm at the bottom of a hutch run unless you're worried about the wood getting scratched? In which case a plastic tablecloth or some lino offcuts under the correx might work too.

Corex would indeed be a decent idea

Thanks. I've just Googled Corex and I understand its a sort of durable plastic material, which sounds like it should do the trick. However, all the websites coming up for it seem to be builder's merchants selling in industrial quantities. Is it possible to get smaller bits in Wickes/B&Q etc.?

Amazon.co.uk: correx Amazon apparently sell smaller sheets. I've never personally used it but I know several forum members have, and they must get it from somewhere. It might be worth doing a site search?

You could try clear plastic wrapping that you use to wrap around school books. It is water proof and not too bulky but may need some bedding on top to absorb any pee. Hope this helps x

Correx is good or if you don't have a supplier near you an off cut of lino/cushion floor can often be picked up cheaply.
