Hi All, I have 2 piggies, both boys. I had to separate them several months ago as they were fighting but they're housed side by side and can almost touch noses through the cage wire. So they're not completely isolated. They have separate floor time every day and I try to make it interesting for them (photo attached hopefully)! But both of them spend max 10 minutes in the floor area and then either sit in a corner of the room near their cages or hop back into their cages. They sometimes venture out again later on for a few minutes. I would have thought if they're enjoying floor time they'd be staying out and exploring. Just wondering if this is normal or do I need to do something different? They have lawn time in the spring and summer.

Piggies are neither nocturnal nor diurnal; they have 'spurts' of activity interspersed with snooze time! My two go nuts, zooming round like mad things then all is quiet for a while... it's like they've knackered themselves out :))

So yeah, what you're seeing is completely normal! I find my girls have a renewed vigour if I rearrange the play area - "Ooh, you've moved a box? We'd best go investigate!" :))

@Tiny you're so right! They're like babies, hyper, nap, hyper, nap XD Mine have renewed energy when the hay arrives!

Thanks for your reply it's reassuring to know my boys are just typical piggies!

With the separate floor time, and given the photo, do you change the floor coverings and fabric toys between them? It might be less specifically relevant with piggies, but with other small pets who are sharing a free range area with ex-friends, this needs to be done. Otherwise they can strongly smell their ex-friend and get worried over invading their territory/ it being an unsafe place to be.

Hi thanks for your reply. No I don't usually change the toys and fleece when I swap the piggies over for floor time. It's a good point though, and something I hadn't thought of. That might make them feel more comfortable to be out and about exploring!
