Hi I'm just wondering how every one goes about floor time? I have a run that they go in during the day. If it is a nice day they will go outside or in the kitchen if not, then back in their cage at tea time. I would love to let them have some time running on the floor as they love to play withe my chihuahua. Do you put blankets down in case they wee or poo? Sorry probably me being stupid Thank you in advance

I put down a mattress protector.I get it from tesco the top has to be 100% cotton, then fleece saves your carpet

I'm very lucky in that my three girls do not pee on the carpet! They come downstairs at weekends and live in the dining room. If they need a wee they go into their carry box or the playpen that's their bedroom. They do occasionally spray up the skirting board though!

i have a play pen for Chock to run about in with a towl on top of the carpet. Mainly to stop him taking chunks out of it but its also handy as i can just roll it up after play time, take it outside and shake everything outside and that stopps hay and poo parcels from going all over the floor which i could step on and crush in to the carpet which isn't nice so the towl stopps that from happening
hope this helps...

I just put a picnic mat down for mine, it's absorbent and has a water proof underside, it's ideal. At the moment we just create a play area with an igloo and boxes but they are getting more adventurous and want to explore more so need to think of something else. Plus we can't leave them unattended as we have two cats.

I put down a shower curtain with a fleece blanket on top.
We have just started doing run time in the bathroom (tile floor, lots of space) and they tend to come back to the fleece blanket to wee.
Or if I give them a hay tray they go in there.
Because of the tile it doesn't matter right now, but once the underfloor heating kicks in then dried guinea pig wee won't be pleasant!

Just wondering, how often do you have floor time? At the moment I only manage once or twice a week and feel guilty that they might need more than that?

Mine only get it at weekends. They live in a shed/upstairs in a C&C ( depending on what our Great British weather is doing) they come in on Friday eve and go back on Sunday eve and they'll be out of their pen about three times a day for between 30 mins and 2 hours each time depending on what's going on. Their pen is a bit small and I feel bad keeping them in! They tend to put them selves away again when they've had enough. They won't get any this weekend though as we're going away and have a novice pig sitter!
