Hello all hope your all having a lovely weekend.

I am considering moving to fleece from vet bed.

Currently I use a layer of newspapers a layer of towels and then the vet bed.

The vet bed is quite expensive and after a few washes is looking rather tatty.

Anyway, I got some cheap fleece from ikea which is a plain blue.

My question is do I have to do anything with the fleece before hand?

Also what is best under the fleece?

I have seen mentioned a fleece liner what is that and do I need one?

Sorry for the silly questions.

Thanks in advance

Do you air dry the vet bed ?/
I wash ours and hang over clothes airers then just pop into the tumble dryer for 5 mins to 'fluff' them up and they have stayed in really good condition. I do take care of the stuff as you say, it's not cheap and we have 15 piggies living on it :x
I use a fleece blanket under mine and can leave it up to a week for the boys (they are amazingly clean :(|)) but the others in larger numbers are changed twice weekly :))

I've never used vet bed before so I was experimenting. I have one that is air dried and one that is tumble dried. Both in the same state.

Everytime I wash it it seems to get smaller and the pigs har now started to chew on it leaving holes in the corners.

I did however purchase it from eBay and hands up didn't no what I was buying and could have easily bought a fake version.

I dont like vet bet for piggie cages but if you brush it it will go fluffy again i found mine shrunk, i use cageliners now (because i make them) and i wont ever use anything else now

I use fleece on top of incontinence mattress toppers which lock the moisture away. These are quite expensive and take a good few washes ( in non-bio )before they start to work properly ( I had to use puppy pads as added protection in the high wee areas until then ) but it does state that on the packaging so no surprises there. They are working well now and I'm only changing them once every 4 - 5 days whereas the puppy pads combined with the fleece were getting soaked through within two days. Only ever use non bio to wash and don't use tumble sheets in the tumble drier either as they'll coat the fleece and it won't wick properly.

Just to add, Cage liners are fleece, made to fit the cage (as shown by 4piggiepigs) And they have a matress protecor sewn into them, if done propperly like 4piggiepigs, that soaks up all the wee, and you need nothing else in the cage. Just take that out and wash it, putting a new one in. :)

There is vet bed and vet bed rolleyes ;) The green backed is the best I find, it washes lovely, I do have some cheaper stuff with rubber backing which feels thicker after washing so is not the 'real' deal. I use this in their toilet and eating areas and the 'best' one in their sleeping areas -c
It doesn't suit everyone but I swear by it, is quick to change but heavy on washing with 15 piggies :x
