I can see from alot of the posts that people are using fleeces in their cages, ive never used these before are they used to make the guinea comfy or is it used for something else, how would i use these, does it cover all the cage, wont the guinea burrow underneath and suffocate? ?/

mine bury underneath occasionally to poo and make a huge mess!

As long as they don't have too many layers I wouldn't worry about suffication. Mine have two fleece layers , on top of one layer of towel. Both materials allow some air to circulate through them, so piggies are safe enough underneath. Wouldn't encourage it though - messy!

I use fleece and have found it a huge improvement over conventional bedding. It is a lot less messy to change and ideal (and cheap) for covering the bigger spaces that a C&C cage allows you.

Thankfully, mine don't burrow (although poor Taffy was living underneath the fleece for the first two weeks before I introduced her and her daughter to the tribe). If you wish, you can fix fleece with clamps or - if you have a conventional cage - just by letting it hang over the edges of the tray bit and fix it with the top of the cage.

I have also found that Llewelyn has a lot less stuff stuck in his bits! You have to spot clean (i.e. pick up poos and other debris) at least once daily.

Fleece wicks away any fluids, so the surface is always dry. Piggies are suckers for the soft life and love their fleece! There is always a run for a freshly cleaned cage!

If you're planning on giving fleece a whirl, I'd recommend putting puppy training pads or incontinence sheets underneath. They soak up all the pee and keep everything clean ;)

I have to say my 2 piggies do burrow underneath and i have to get them out and straighten it all up again which gets annoying when they keep doing it!
Overall though fleece is a good optionn for me with just the 2 pigs.

I have a layer of newspaper, a layer of towel or old duvet cover then a layer of fleece. I've been doing this for about 2 weeks now. You do need to spot clean each day, as has been said, and I do change things every couple of days. It's beginning to feel like the constsnt washing of baby things, so not sure how I'll find it in winter when it's not so easy to dry things. However, I am glad to have my pigs opff shavings and I've never seen them lounging around so much in their cage!

None of mine have ever tunnelled under the fleece. Yet...{:|

Is it ok to use in the summer or would it be better for winter, do they get hot in it in the summer?

I've wondered that too. But I have moved my pigs into the garage while it's really hot and when I'm not at work they're in the run, so it doesn't really affect them. They love slobbing and stretching out on it, even in these warm nights, so I'd say they're OK with it. I had tried a kitchen tile so they have something cool to lie on but a) they didn't lie on it and b) it soon gets covered with hay!

Hi,

I have to use fleece for my guinea pig, Ping, as he has really bad allergies to wood shavings. I also think my little girl, Walnut, might have allergies too. I find it a lot easier to clean and much less mess. Although you do have to clean more regularly than with shavings. I clean every 2 days. They get really excited with clean fleece, lots of popcorning and racing about! :)
