Wow

I have just been looking through the cage thread and noticed most of you use fleece. It looks lovely. I hate the way the carefresh gets kicked out everywhere so I guess fleece would cure this problem

Would a fleece pet blanket do? I saw some pawprint doggy blankets in the pound shop so will grab a bunch of these and give it a whirl. should I pad it out with newspapers underneath. How often do you change. Does the hay get stuck? I dont want to ruin my new washer!

thanks again

a fleece pet blanket will work great if it's been washed a few times without fabric softener!

Just newspaper underneath gets smelly quite quickly. Try a few old towelds for a start.

Hay gets stuck. A good shaking removes a lot, but if you wash the blanket in a knotted up duvet cover all the bits will stay in that and save your washing machine. Then you can shake it out outside!

How often you need to change depends on the size of your cage. Small cage means more changes. If you have a 120 and two pigs I'd say you need to change every third day or so.

I have fleece and love it! :)

Look out for baby blankets or bed throws made with polyester; one is enough to fill the cage (measure out your cage and add 8 in/20 cm on each side, so you can trap the fleece with the top of the cage in order to keep the piggies from sneaking underneath). Cheap throws you can get in Primark (I got some for £2.50), for example. Another one is from Ikea for £10, but it fits in with our living room colour scheme. but there are quite a few place that have bedthrows. Most pet blankets are too small to cover the whole cage.

I use cheap towels from Ikea (for less than £1 each) over the newspaper layer, so more pee gets soaked up. but I'm sure that quite a few places have them!

You need to really shake out your fleece before washing and pick off any stuck pieces of hay; and again before and after drying. If it's not your own washing machine, it is advisable to use an old or very cheap duvet cover for washing the piggy stuff in in order to avoid clogged filters and hairy drums.

Fleece is great, i use it over towels, mine mainly pee in the upper layer in the house so i also put some newspaper there just under the fleece so i can change it everyday. I do a full change every 3-4 days- i sweep up the poops and most of the hay and then just shake outside. I got a really big wash bag off Amazon for £3 which does the job really well.

I just changed my girlies over to fleece today, it was fascinating watching them trying to suss it out, they seem to really like it. :)
